General chat needs a real football thread :P

I am a huge fan of soccer. I mainly follow the English Premier League and the Spanish Premier League. The 2 teams I follow would be Barcelona and Manchester United. I also play myself for a semi-professional local Irish team.

To kick this off I just want to say I am still in shock over the moves on Transfer deadline day. Liverpool paying unbelievable amounts for a player that was worth £15 million at most and Fernando Torres taking spending by clubs to a new record high.

Personally I believe that clubs are grossly over-paying for players in this day and age. What are your opinions/thoughts?

I was actually in Germany in April 2006, 2 months before the World Cup that year, jesus the athmosphere was amazing. We got a tour of the stadium in Frankfurt, it was awesome, I can only imagine what it would be like on a match day.

It was overwhelming. Really, back in 2006 that whole year and especially the World Cup months were fascinating!! I have no words for it. I love the german team, its great!!! I never felt such a strong sense of community before and until now never again. We were all crying together when germany lost the semi-final.

I'm sure, since women football isnt that big and famous not that many people will actually care for it, but I will.
Really the german girls are great! Thexy won the World Cup 2 times (last one within) and 7 times the Europe Cup for women!

+ my sister's friend actually plays in the national team, which means I'm probably gonna be able to go to a few games :D

Well I LOVE football! My favourite teams are AEK Athens (Greece), Olympique de Marseille, Barcelona and Manchester United. Well the news I'm going to give you may not be very important but nevermind. AEK Athens are to the semi-final of the Greek Cup after a 2-3 defeat from Panathinaikos in the second leg of the semi quarter finals. AEK won the first leg 0-2. Now they are going to face PAOK Thessaloniki, that won Olympiakos with 1-0. Next week we will know the rest of the teams...

I'm quite a big footie fan, and obviously on an international scene I follow Ireland, but of the bigger nations that are actually likely to win things I always cheer on Germany.

On a club level I'm a proud Liverpool fan, and have been since I was like 5? Yeah Glen you're completely right in saying footballers are worth and get paid waaaay too much money these days. Look at Ronaldo, €80m or something to kick a ball? Its crazy. But as far as the Liverpool transfers, with the sale of Babel and most importantly, Torres, we are only down 2m, and it means we paid for both players what we deemed to be their original valuation.

With the board clearly behind us and with plenty of money, and King Kenny back at the helm, I'm looking forward to our future! And the Chelsea match on Sunday

The Arsenal! :D

As for the transfer fees, i think they are being distorted at the moment by the big spending owners taking over clubs. Despite being frustrated by the lack of spending by Arsenal, i think we are going about things in the right way, and living within our means.

Once regulations are introduced to control spending, i think it will benefit the game overall.

I LOVE football. :runaround:

I played from I was about 5 and intil I was 17. For 16 of those years I played for a team called Asker. When I was 17 I was diagnosed with a sportsinjury called jumpersknee.
Due to the injury I can't play for a team anymore, but I play from time to time for fun. :)

My favoritte team in Norway is Rosenborg. Except Norwegian football I mostly follow the Premier League. I don't have a favoritte team in England, but since my favoritt footballplayer plays for Liverpool I watch all of their matches.

When it comes to nationalteams I support Denmark and Germany.

The mighty Glasgow Celtic :runaround: Soon to be Scottish Champions!
Loving the way the team has been playing this last month, great football, Neil Lennon is developing into a great manager and his signings have almost to a man been exceptional.

Looking forward to beating Rangers twice in the next 3 weeks, knocking them out of the cup on Sunday then 2 weeks later at Celtic Park (on my birthday :D)

My favourite all time players are Henrik Larsson, aka Ghod, Paul Scholes (I will cry when he retires), and Xavi.

Im a Messi fanboy, him and Ryan Giggs are my 2 favourite players. Me being left-footed makes it easy to take inspiration from them.

Snap on being left footed. Its just so much cooler! I'm completely not ambidextrous when it comes to football, I usually fall over when I try to swing my right foot at a ball

I played the same way Messi does before Messi came onto the scene  Left footed, right sided attacking mid/winger. He stole my idea!
When I was about 12 or 13 I always wanted to be one of those natural strikers like Van Nistelrooy and Larsson and I'd watch them making runs and try and copy them but I was always far too unfit to be a footballer, I am unbelievably slow yet have really quick feet when I do have the ball so I can beat people but only if they can't be arsed trying to catch up after :D

Ozil is awesome!

Messi is a star, that man is unbelievable! ... Kaka is great too, too bad he was overshadowed by his injury. I also love Higuain, too bad he's out right now too.
