This draws you instantly in and keeps you there for the entire book.
It's a dystopian novel set after the destruction of North America. It is now divided into twelve (thirteen? don't remember) districts.
To keep the people knowing that the government has full power, the Hunger Games are held every year, in which a boy and a girl from each district are selected. They are sent to this hidden location, and forced to kill one another off until there is only one person left. The winner gets a life of riches and all that jazz.
SO: Action, insightfulness, romance, etc.
The ending leaves you hanging (like, really hanging) and the second of the trilogy comes out in September.
Sometimes the main character annoyed me, but overall it is a really good book. One of those books you sit down and read cover to cover in just a few hours because it moves so quickly.
I haven't read it since March, so my bad if I messed any of that up.
And don't let the fact that it's YA turn you off. It's really very good :]

Anyone else love it?

I am impatiently awaiting the next book. It has an amazing storyline, and I definitely agree with you that it instantly hooks you.

I got Catching Fire for Christmas and finished a few hours ago.
It was gooddd! These are really some of the best YA I've read. Very insightful.
I'm so excited for the third. They always end on such cliffhangers.
I can't decide between Peeta and Gale D: But atm am leaning towards the former.

I read both books a few months ago, and I found them rather enjoyable, but only mediocrely (if that's a word) written. The plot and storyline was amazing, though, and probably the best new books I've read in quite some time!

I thought these were very good and the books did drag you in. I'm betting on Peeta but I fucking love Gabe for some reason  I did think the competition was very Running Man-esque but she did a good job of giving it a good, original backstory. Anyone know when the 3rd book is out?

Is it true that a movie is in the process? The plot of this book was just super amazing.

I think Lionsgate has the rights, but I don't know how far along they are in the process.

oooh wait it has an imdb page.

I like the series, and a bunch of my friends are getting the third one the day it comes out; they have it preordered.
I'll just borrow it and read it the next day, when everyone else is done.

I've read the first book. The first pages I couldn't get into the story, but when the Hunger Games really began I couldn't stop reading. Now I'm really curious and I want to read the second one too!

my friend shoved the first book in my hands one day and told me to read it. I begged her for the sequel the next day. I preordered the third book for my birthday and now have to wait for Barnes and Noble to ship it to. It sucks to wait but I guess it's worth it, right? =/

FUCK I LOVE THIS TRILOGY. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I didn't even start reading them until last week, and I only have about 130 pages left of Mockingjay.

Best YA books I've read in a very long time. I adore how Suzanne leaves a cliffhanger at the end of every single chapter. I haven't been bored once.

If anyone has read it, please don't give away anything about Mockingjay - but does anyone if it is supposed to be the final book? I don't know if it is ending as a trilogy or if there will be more.

it's the last one. and i don't want any spoilers or give aways or crap either. that would suck. i have a friend i was commenting on her status-y thing with and a friend of hers replied and gave a minor spoiler that made me go crazy. i wanted to slap her through the computer lol :pinch:

Ah! I haven't gotten the chance to so much as open the cover yet! It's killing me! But now that it's finally the weekend, hopefully I can start it :)

I bought the boxset online on Friday. Hasn't come in the mail yet. :(

I've heard so much about this series and since I'm studying Dystopias in Ext. and Adv. English I thought I might as well read it (plus John Gallagher Jr. may have mentioned it a few times on his Twitter). :whistle

I actually just checked this out of the library recently after being intrigued by the title on the spine ... Have yet to read it, though, but I thought it sounded pretty good!
