I have read the hobbit through the second book but I just can't bring myself to read the third book. It starts off way to boring for my tastes. So many people have critisized The Silmarillion and say that is sucks. Is it good enough to take the time to read?

I really enjoyed The Hobbit. I couldn't get into the Lord of the Rings books though.

The Hobbit is one of my favourite books. smile.gif
I read it couple of times and always enjoyed. I like it more than LOTR. I mean, LOTR trilogy is awesome, but too detailed.

I loved the hobbit. I really enjoyed reading it.
Lord of the rings was very hard to read for me, i really had to use all of my attention to read it. I read the first and second book but I gave it up in the middle of the third book.
Amazing books though but I prefer the movies smile.gif.

I read about less than 200 pages through "The Fellowship of the Ring" and then couldn't seem to be able to read any further because it bored the hell out of me confused.gif

I love, love, LOVE Tolkien, but I really dislike C.S. Lewis' books (and I've read through all of them; god, I'm stupid)

I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but somehow I don't feel the same about that Hobbit book. It was way more boring that the trilogy. Plus, the plot was kind of expectable.
Or maybe I don't like it that much only because I had to read it for school tongue.gif

^ I didn't know that. That explains why it's written differently than Lord of the Rings.

I loved the Hobbit, but the description in LOTR dragged on a bit for me. Reading the books does give the movies a lot more depth and understanding though.

Um...just wanted to say that you two have just about the sexiest icons ever...that is all.

Anywho! The Lord of the Rings movies are the reason I wanted to become a director, so they hold a special place in my heart. smile.gif The books, however, are, of course, fucking amazing! I've read them all only twice...I'll get back to them someday. I couldn't get all the way through the Silmarillion because I thought it read kind of like a history book...but Feanor ftw. wink.gif laugh.gif I'm such a nerd sometimes...rather all the time.

And CS Lewis is the one that convinced Tolkien not to kill Pippin. smile.gif

The Lord of the Rings series influenced alot of Robert Plants' lyrics.

i started reading it, but I gave up. So extremaly confusing.
it was one of those books where you forget what you have just read and your eyes just wander over the page

you gotta have some patience with The Hobbit, it starts out slow. But around where Bilbo gets the ring, it starts getting exciting

I've recently started reading LOTR again, but I've come to the Council At Elrond chapter and it's just so fucking long
But I'm almost through it smile.gif

Same here. I would love to read them again. Working on getting around to it. My dad bought me the book set when I was in elementary school. I remember him reading the Hobbit to me in second grade.

A lot of people can't stand the widespread descriptions that Tolkien uses- I love it. It adds to the book.
