This was written by the awesome Eldoon, so I reposted it here

I might as well make a thread about one of my most favorite bands ever, out of both respect for them and to also see what you peeps think of them (I already know what you think, Terrbear, but feel free to join in the thread shenanigans). The band in question is, of course, Nirvana. Now, most people remember Nirvana because of the whole Kurt Cobain suicide (or was it murder? OMG CONSPIRACY THEORY LOL,) or because of Smells Like Teen Spirit and the ensuing Grunge takeover, or, probably less likely, for their utterly amazing MTV Unplugged performance.
But those arenít the main reasons I remember Nirvana. I remember them for the music and the people behind it, duh. Kurt Cobain remains one of my personal heroes, not only for his songwriting ability, but for his whole attitude on the way we live our lives. Krist Novoselic has always been and always will be one of my favorite bass players, and Dave Grohl; what can I NOT say about Dave Grohl? Heís the man. Period. Sure, Iím deeply saddened that Kurt had to go so early, and Iíve always had a deep loathing for Courtney Love because I know sheís involved in one way or another. But Nirvanaís popularity was both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it kicked open the door for Alternative Rock in the mainstream, but it also put the band on a pedestal that they didnít need to necessarily be on. Sure, theyíre an influential band, no doubt about it, but because they got so revered some people write them off as overrated. And if there is one thing Nirvana is not, itís overrated.

I respect Nirvana... but I dont really like them... they could have been sooo much more... And not just because kurt went early, but even when they were making records and such, they had the potential to be so much more.

I'm starting to get more and more into Nirvana (thanks to the topic starter, hehe) and I absolutely adore their unplugged preformance.

I like Nirvana as a band, they are very good.

I dislike the band as a cultural influence. More and worse clones than Green Day.

I really like Nirvana, but I listened a lot more to them a few years ago than I do now...
I dont really know why I don't listen to them more these days.
Maybe its because I'm not in a Nirvana-mood that often.
I cant listen to Green Day, for instance, if im in a not-green-day-mood, and its the same thing with every band and all the music I listen too.

Ohhhh, I love the accoustic demos on that one. The SLTS demo is pretty cool too, it's longer!

nirvana is amazing.

you can't really call them 'overrated', but i think most of nirvana-fans just like them because they're so...legendary... they don't really care about the music, they just heard they're such a 'legendary' rock-band , and think they have to like them
and i hate if you say 'nirvana' and some kids yells out 'kurt cobain'. nirvana is more than kurt cobain.

still, it's a great band.

Yeah, I love Nirvana. I still need to get the box set though, or "Sliver". My favourite song is "Been A Son".

The box set will cost you more, but I'd reccomend picking that up. Almost eveyrthing on "Sliver" is on there, and you get a DVD of rare performances as well.

I would call a bunch of home video footage of the band "rare" footage, wouldn't you?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that these people (whoever they are) are just draining everything Nirvana produced to fast?
