Insomniac186 Posted March 23, 2019 Share Posted March 23, 2019 Ted Jensen is a mastering engineer, so that means these tracks were mastered and ready to be released when needed. The most likely scenario is that they were ready to go as b-sides and whatever else the band might contribute to, such as compilations and movie soundtracks (which is how most of these songs WERE released). I remember back then Green Day was supposed to have a couple of songs on the "Live Freaky Die Freaky" (or whatever it was called) soundtrack and it didn't happen for whatever reason. Maybe they could have been some of these that haven't come out yet. Clearly the band decided to hold on to some of these instead and either save them for future release or "recycle" them for new material. I remember years ago I told everyone here on this board that I could tell Lights Out and Hearts Collide was from the AI era and not 21CBD. Since that master disc has a date of 7-21-04 it looks like a was right. 😉 17Gonzalo; that's probably because "I Fought The Law" was already out at this time. oop.yarrz Posted June 27, 2019 Share Posted June 27, 2019 doesn't Michael Mayer have very early 21CB recordings which he used to flush out the story of American idiot which is why some of those songs are in the musical ... there were probably a few other (at the time) unreleased demos such as when its time.. maybe not I don't know.... also when green day "took over" serious/xm station faction around the time uno was released billie said he wrote and recorded almost all of the trilogy solo and possibly acoustic, then shared those demos with the rest of the band and they flushed them out together, some major changes were made and a lot of stuff left out or reworked... I assume they were low quality like a personal/memo recorder... this is not demolicious as those as full band demos... I don't know if they talked about that in quarto as I never saw it. About Demolicious, acoustic Stay the Night is probably the worst thing Green Day has ever released (since it's recorded with phone likely) so I don't understand why people would want more of those. I’m a history buff and I love a glimpse into the process and the making of great music. I could watch hours of raw studio footage and I love raw early demos. I think it’s a perfect reflection of Billie’s mental state during the time he wrote these trilogy songs(Obviously that’s just my opinion). It’s a sad revisiting to the same “character”(Billie)20 years down the road from the last time we all had the time to “listen to him whine”. I suffer from clinical depression and a chronic anxiety disorder so a lot of Billie’s songs on those topics are like he’s “reading the thoughts out of my head”. Having validation for my feelings from Billie’s lyrics meant a lot back when I first starting listening to Green Day, but especially nowadays where a lot of people still stigmatize and don’t understand mental illness. I think it’s one of the main reasons I’ve practically worshipped the man. Lazy Bones, BUW?, Armatage Shanks, Uptight,etc. A lot of my favorite Green Day songs feature that dark, but very close to home subject manner.
