Could Green Day's new album be coming April 2019? (pure speculation)

I haven’t seen the movie and I will, but from what I’ve heard (and this is something I kind of imagined could happen), they say it’s a bit predictable, that is, if you already know what happened, it would appear not to put such a spin on the events or add many new perspectives. I think for most casual Queen listeners it wouldn’t matter, but to someone who already knows a thing or two about the band...

I don’t know, I still want to see it either way and I’ll judge then...

@LaughingClock This is off topic so we can’t get into it too much, but from what I’ve read it sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody is getting mixed reviews but viewers absolutely love it. I think it will do well. The critics think it didn’t go deep enough into Freddie’s sexuality, etc.

Yeah the reviews are mixed but when I look at RT, I go straight to the viewers likes which stand at about 97% and have stupid good reviews. (I mean movies like Winters Bone gets 99% from pretentious movies reviewers and it gets like 23% from viewers and the movie makes you want to punch yourself in the balls even if you have none. Yeah, it’s only usually right if it’s horrible reviews like 30% or lower I won’t go but anything above 50% has a fighting chance and it’s at 60% with high 90s by viewers and I can’t see not liking it. I’ve watched the trailer like 20x).

Sasha Baran Cohen drooped out of the film becuse they didn’t explore the more hedonistic side of things (per the desire of the surviving members).

123 minutes of Queen music that culminates into the best moment in rock history can’t be bad. I’m going tonight. I expect to sing.

There is most definitely a trend right now in movies for viewer and critic reviews being polar opposite. Hence the declining relevance of the Oscars.

@neverdone2000 I think that has always been the case.

Star Wars was never up for anything major, nor was even movies like Pitatee or the Caribean (the original) and how about comedies by Jim Carrey like Ace Ventura, The Mask, or DUMB AND DUMBER!

Its a lot harder to make a good comedy from a writing and a acting perspective than any drama. If you want more reality than “good because it’s well made and acted”, look to BAFTA and Golden Globes. The Oscars like most award shows are just a circle jerk anyway. Everyone I know that saw BR said it’s beyond and that Rami Malik (a virtual unknown) has Oscar talk by all the viewers I spoke with. Won’t happen because of the luke warm reviews but go see it with the fans (so now) and SING.

This is going to be my chance to finally see a fucking Queen concert! lol. The musical was supposed to do that for me but didnt. Just bought midnight tickets for iMax tonight. Just love Mercury. Such a tender and wonderful soul and inspired so many like Billie.

Ok, I don’t think there is anything wrong with this discussion personally as it was a natural progression but I’m going to pull my own leash and try and send this thread back on topic.

Thank you mods for letting the conversation happen to this point.

You’re welcome. Let’s get back to talking about Green Day stuff now.

(I’m sure you could create a new Movies Club thread in general chat if you wanted to further this other conversation though.)

Oh and the “hey yos”, just watch the Live Aid performance.  Just saying if you’re looking for a band with the dive

Queen are amazing, even today as Queen + Adam Lambert and I hope to one day see them live.

Im going to make a totally random prediction. Green Day will spend most of 2019 working on a new album which will either be released later in the year or early 2020. Most likely 2020, because they always release albums in the fall and could see them doing something different to throw us off.

My prediction is they will start with a small club tour July 2019 exactly one month after I leave the US.

No way, my man.
Billie Joe is living the dream with the Longshot and Mike and Tré are having sweet days with their families.
New album won't come before 2020, mark my words.

True. Tre has a baby on the way. If anything they’ll be doing some fbht’s shows. Maybe after billies live video yesterday, a network ep? Just with all the keyboards and synths

Yeah they all seem to be really enjoying life right now. There's always that "one song" or one idea that becomes the next Green Day album, hard to say if they've made it that far but Im sure the band probably has (at least) a VAGUE idea of what the next album will be like, or at least know what they're shooting for. Then again, maybe they haven't even discussed it. Who knows.

My source said that Billie kicked Mike and Tre out and replaced them with Wes Scantlin Scott Stapp and Chad Kroeger saying “it’s about time we have some real talent in the band”

(for what it’s worth my source also said that Trump would reveal that he’s an alien by July 2018 and that was wrong but I have a feeling he’s correct on the replacements)

My hunch is that they'll spend a good amount of next year touring the classic albums, and we will see album 13 by Spring 2020. I'm basing this on nothing, don't @ me bro.

I hope he’s got some interesting stuff up his sleave for this next album. RevRad as a whole: Too Dumb to Die (nostalgic/thinking about the past/missing something), Bang Bang (watching a lot of tv and using media and outside story sources), Bouncing Off the Wall (nostalgic/thinking about being free) as much fun as those songs were it was sad that he was finding his soul under the couch cushion.... I hope he feels alive again after the tour and the Longshot. He’s a crazy writing and playing machine and that seems to be when he’s at his happiest and when he’s at his best. The RevRad tour was a huge beast of a tour with a generally very static and standard set list. The tour was a monster with private planes and police escorts and who knows what else. A typical Green Day tour looks like a really heavy looking production. He got out there with the Longshot and had some fun and hopefully got reenergized actually getting to almost be normal. Hopefully that got his heart beating faster again in a way to get his songwriting into gear and also to make him happy and hopefully crazy in all the right ways. I can’t wait for the new record! Although yes there needs to be a crazy big tour to go with a Green Day record but it’ll be a lot of fun! I’m guessing this next record is going to be really fun and surprising.... Now that Billie has found his soul under the couch cushions and then went out and tried to do something about it.

Aren't they touring their classic albums all the time when most of what they play is dookie and idiot? Meh. If old material tour is what they want to do then they'd better do it with rare stuff.

He found his soul where now? Don’t know what that turn-a-phrase “under the couch cushion” means but it rings less than good.

I think those songs he’s produced so far are a little better than you are giving them credit for, IMHO although I share your sentiment and optimism about future music.

"Hallelujah I found my soul under the sofa pillow". You're not giving Billie's lyrics in the first song of the album much credit :P

Correct! I was paraphrasing Somewhere Now and just saying it seemed like he was missing excitement and actually getting out and doing things. He’s going through the motions and doing things he isn’t really happy doing. “I'm running late to somewhere now I don't want to be” and he’s bored “How did a life on the wild side ever get so dull?” And it feels like a nostalgic record but in a sad way “Screaming my memories as if I was never there” and “I got a sentimental illness for you, Please don't go away.” I love the art, emotions and intricacies of Billies songwriting.

I am never talking about production. I think everything they do sounds great. I don’t know enough to be able to nitpick amazing records in regards to production.

I agree the album has a lot of nostalgia but I think he also already got to the looking forward/enjoying stuff again part on it as well. Like in Somewhere Now, it's true he talks about the past but then comes the looking forward part with the line you paraphrased, or in Forever Now where it's gone from "how did a life on the wild side ever get so dull" to "...ever get so full". And there's fun stuff like Bouncing Off the Wall(s) and other songs that deal with present themes. It's not entirely looking back, it embraces the present and future too. But I agree the next album will probably carry on further along that road with less of the nostalgia.

Bouncing Off the Wall is one of the funnest songs on the record. That and Too Dumb to Die are my favorite on the record. I think Bouncing Off the Wall was maybe written a long time ago and sounds present tense but it sounds like the same mindset as Devils Kind and Ordinary World. Those songs were written ages ago and were on the movie soundtrack. Also I think that’s why Devils Kind didn’t end up on the Longshot record. It was too old and “present tense”. I think Revolution Radio had a lot of songs that were bits and pieces of really old stuff. I read somewhere that Bouncing Off the Wall was two older songs mashed together and that Youngblood was on Cigarettes and Valentines. Is that true? I bet someone on here can pull up the interview. I can try to find it later.

I’m not exactly sure but I think Somewhere Now and Forever Now were specifically written during the RevRad era and writing process. Those songs I find the most interesting because they’re like a snapshot of that era and that moment in time. Nostalgic and looking back on more exciting times but yes hopeful about the future and things to come. And right after the RevRad tour we got hit with the Longshot like a ton of bricks. It was a very exciting record and a great tour. I hope there’s more of the Longshot. However, this spark and excitement in Billie’s writing and his ambition to tour small clubs with a new band and try new things and experiences gives me a great optimistic feeling for the new Green Day record.

Most Longshot songs are so sad Alexa play Chasing a Ghost...not all of them are new but I think that album is sort of a less optimistic sequel to revrad.

I think RevRad is the in between record and the Longshot is the sequel to Stop, Drop and Roll and the Trilogy with RevRad/Bouncing Off the Wall being a link.

And the Longshot record is sooooooo good but so sad 💔 how can it be sad and fun? I don’t know but it is!

Yes, you describe it perfectly. Imo what makes gd and all the related projects interesting is the way it all tells the same story but from different perspectives.

It's the killer combination of upbeat melodies and sad lyrics. Such a simple trick but it works. It's such a fun record on the surface but when you really listen to the lyrics it gets sad. It's like feeling depressed inside but acting normal so no one can tell lol
