Just saw this, I think it's cool!

Is this going to be a sappy "share your story" thing?

I'm sure there will be many posts like that...  But it doesn't have to be, I guess you can share pretty much anything that has some meaning to you, like Billie and his guitar

What do they mean with "make your voice count" though... It makes me think that there might be something more to this later than just sharing nice pictures with the hashtag.

It isn't clear what this is?  It could just be a song promotion.  No matter what, it will be a song promotion.  I don't blindly participate in anything.

It clearly is a song promotion that came a bit too late, consdering that SB has been out for months and they already announced the revrad video...it almost looks like a last minute idea to fully use the potential SB had.

Not saying it will be necessarily bad, however I do think they should have made clear what is it supposed to be - the ambiguity doesn't create much suspense when the promo comes three months after the single. It looks kind of like they are trying too hard.

I agree - I don't know why they're being mysterious like that.

It's a shame that still breathing can be number 1 on rock charts for more than 10 weeks, but can't even crack the hot 100. Very bizarre 🙄

It did well on the rock charts that measure airplay, US Rock Airplay, US Mainstream Rock and US Alternative songs but it only reached No. 12 on the US Hot Rock songs which measures both radio airplay and sales (as does the Hot 100) because it didn't sell much

Green Day should've done more promotion and should have released a CD in the US for SB and then maybe it might've had a chance for the Hot 100

I really don't know what this campaign thing is or what they're doing with it but if they wanted to do something like this, they're a couple months too late

My guess is that it is not strictly a song promotion, but a promotion using the song.  My guess would be an anti-Trump campaign, considering it said to post a picture of the flag.  However, it could be anything from a campaign to bring attention to addiction problems to Project Chimps, or anything in between.  It could be an extremely effective way of bringing attention to an issue, but for it to be effective, the people participating have to know what they are supporting.  This way it turns into people supporting their favorite artist, not necessarily a particular issue.

My guess is that it's a song promotion which indeed is a little late. Maybe they wanna use the promotional effect of the tour to push the single some more. Btw, Linkin Park did pretty much the same thing with their new single Heavy, but I like the #StillBreathing campaign more cause it has more context. Yeah, a lot of sappy stories, but "Still Breathing" is a sappy song and this is better than just holding a piece of paper and smiling when the song is actually quite serious:

That makes more sense than just focusing on the song (considering how late that would be). The flags indeed give it a political vibe, but SB isn't a political song - I'd rather keep that for revrad, because it would bring attention to both the song and its message in a less "aggressive" way than what they did for Bang Bang.

Either way, they'll probably reveal it soon. (Otherwise this doesn't make much sense because of the timing).

Edit: searched for the hashtag and this came up

#buttpower

No one does. Things just sometimes happen in the gd world. One day it's #buttgate, next day it's a mysterious promo campaign.

I've always had the impression that their social media (marketing in general) are all over the place.

I think mojo and rocky are running their marketing campaign.

In that case they should start posting selfies - that would be a massive improvement.

Maybe it will be made into a video? Except there already is a video for Still Breathing. I have absolutely no idea. Maybe they're just curious 😄

I dunno, maybe they're just curious to see what the song has come to mean to people. Some will use it as an excuse to share a sappy story, some might turn it into a motivator for themselves, some might do something clever with it. Maybe the ambiguity is deliberate. And I didn't really see the flag thing as political, just really a way of seeing the hashtag reach or something.

  • lizziebix changed the title to Still Breathing Campaign

Maybe I'm alone with this opinion, but I kind of like the idea of spreading #stillbreathing around the world just to see in which ways this song can unite people from many different countries with many different stories who somehow still have something in common. Isn't this also the concept of sites like GDC?

"I'm still breathing" can mean so much. It may sound trivial, but once you've experienced that it's not a given, it suddenly sounds like the most meaningful sentence in the world. I think it's the perfect song to do something like this. And why is a story about the meaning of a song for your life neccessarily a sappy story? Is Billie's story, the reason he wrote this song, sappy? I don't think so.

Maybe I'm just so emotional about this because this song means A LOT to me personally. Maybe it's some kind of promotion, but at least it's a nice way to do it ;)

Oh god I hope not, I never want to see a GD version of this

Sorry but I can't stand stuff like that :P. I think it's probably just a thing where they're getting people to post about things that are important to them on Instagram in the spirit of the song though, not so bad.

Me neither. Fan participation in BIAB was enough for a lifetime.

I just checked - no one has done it yet.

Why do we think it's cryptic or whatever?

Cause what this reminds me of is when Billie randomly did that hashtag/instagram/whatever thing with everyone tagging their locally started bands. And the idea was discovering new artists through the hashtag. It started out as a general one, then he suggested to add an area/city to it to narrow it down. It was a while back I think but I'm pretty sure it was something he just made up?

So...why are we thinking this is more official or cryptic or whatever?
