and another here about the new indie amnesty: music fans share the embarrassing ways they incorporated bands into their schoolwork:

They should have mentioned @solongfromthestars project ;)

In my sophomore year of college, I wrote a research paper about Green Day's influence during the 2004 election. It was entitled "Green Day Rocks the Political World". 😂 No regrets at all!

Green Day get a mention in this Kerrang article about The Best Rock Performances at the Grammys:

https://www.kerrang.com/features/the-best-rock-performances-at-the-grammys/

They say:

Ten years after winning their first Grammy, Green Day destroyed the show with a massive performance of the title track from their second music-defining album. Something about the kings of slacker culture from the music industry’s heyday returning to the Grammys to usher in the new age of indie music in shirts and ties is both ironic and awesome. This is one of those performances that makes you wish you’d been there.

Reminder from ALT1053 Radio that #GreenDayDay is one week from today!

I can't access the article from the UK so am unable to see what it says.

Kerrang have also posted about a piano cover of Basket Case by YouTuber Davide Locatelli. Full article and if you'd like to listen here:

https://www.kerrang.com/the-news/heres-an-amazing-piano-cover-of-green-days-basket-case/

This is what they say:

Earlier this month, Green Day’s legendary third record Dookie celebrated its 25th birthday.

We paid tribute to it in our own way (with this magazine, and a pretty heated argument about whether or not it’s their greatest album), and fans around the world have done the same.

Over the weekend, YouTuber Davide Locatelli posted a neat piano rendition of Dookie’s third single, the iconic Basket Case, giving the track a super-jaunty new feel. You could almost imagine a similar version appearing on the band’s epic 21st Century Breakdown album à la ¡Viva la Gloria! or something.

Check it out below! Brilliant stuff.

Now, because we definitely haven’t seen Basket Case’s legendary video enough, let’s give that another watch…

Green Day themselves have been reflecting on their world-class third album, too.

And not only have Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt happily looked back on a record that changed their collective lives, but their frontman has even hinted that a proper birthday celebration of all things Dookie could well end up happening at some point in 2019…

“We wanted to think of something special to do but we couldn’t quite come up with anything.. Maybe play the record in its entirety at the pyramids in Egypt,” Billie Joe posted on Instagram. “Or jam it Machu Picchu ? Exclusive in Viggiano.? Never quite came to fruition.. But never despair. 2019 still has time.. Dookie makes me think about Berkeley a lot. Our house on Ashby and Ellsworth a block from telegraph avenue. Living in a basement with a band called East Bay Weed Company. Our friend Ben Mattick… socialist college girls living up stairs. Coming up with she and coming clean. Riding bikes and bong hits. Turning 21. Pete’s Wicked Ale. Hysterical laughter. Maniacal laughter. Butterball turkey. “The Ashby house” was our little punk house. I would write songs all night and wake up at 2:00 pm. Have a bagel and a coffee on the front steps.. debilitating panic attacks.. my guitar, my Marshall, my 4 track tape recorder.

“Weird A &R dudes sniffing around.

“Eventually Meeting producer Rob Cavallo.. we learned so much from him. Playing Beatles songs over and over… Richie Bucher’s amazing ep cover he did for a band called Raúl inspired us to ask him to do the cover art for Dookie.

“Mike’s G3 bass. Tre’s Noble coolly snare… driving in my old Ford Fairlane hearing Longview on the radio for the first time. Blair Hess. our first show in Italy at a place called in bloom.

“having a lot of uncertainty about our future but not giving a shit. Wanting and dreading to be a rock star.. if that’s even possible.. Local punk scene backlash… Fist fights at Gilman street… stress stress stress!! You have to have gratitude for the bad and the ugly too.. Well… that’s the random thoughts I have for now… I hope people keep listening.. cause we’ll keep playing… love BJ”

Probably a Freudian slip caused by watching a KFAD performance and seeing Billie's bear ass.

Maybe a Freudian slip maybe an accurate description. I won't investigate.

Wow, they really did their research there, didn't they? :tired:

I would agree  They didn't even go into ANYTHING that was super deep and cool, just popular lyrics off popular songs.

They should come do an internship on GDC :P, where people listen to all the songs and everyone ends up with their own favorite lyrics coming from a multitude of songs, potentially any song, because there are so many great lyrics everywhere. With that kind of articles, it should be great to mix stuff people may already more or less know, with other stuff they wouldn't know except if they are already big fans. That way they may want to listen to the less known songs

I don’t think they even listened to the songs they chose, it’s just the chorus for most of them

"Things you probably don't know" I take this as a challenge. If the one about trying to get into an Operation Ivy show is true then it's funny, haven't heard that one before. Same for the toilet seat thing although I've heard that before and still don't know if it's true or just a rumour.

A lot of them are vague/dubious though (like how is he "one of the first blue collar punks"? and if they're going to do two about his acting why are only King of the Hill and Haunted of all things mentioned?) with incorrect details added in, info about Blue being his "first guitar" is wrong as usual. I love to hate these things :P
