For me the appeal of signature guitars comes from their uniqueness. A Tom Delonge Strat or Epiphone is great because no other guitars are made that way -- hard tail with one pickup -- so in that regard they're great to have. Same thing with say a Trini Lopez 335 or An '84 explorer. On the other hand, I could never justify buying something like a Slayer ESP or a Zakk Wylde LP. Those things are so damn gaudy...
Though I must admit, a Kirk Hammett movie poster guitar would be fun to have.
It depends on the color. There are a lot of matte or flat cherry 335's that look amazing. The monkey shit brown of the DeLonge? It takes some getting used to but...eh
I've wanted a Delonge 333 pretty badly for the past couple of years, but I can't justify having a guitar around just for the novelty of it. Especially because I know I'd get sick of the color eventually. If they made a white one I'd be so happy.
That being said, I do have a Delonge strat and it's soooo great. I just wish I had a legit invader to put in it.
