It's already been mentioned, but the main issue for me is the followed topics no longer being in a sidebar. A mobile version would be nice too. Otherwise I'll get used to it. It's a shame sigs are gone, but I guess they're not that important. Edit: the only other thing I'd add is that it might be nice to have an option to make content on profiles less obvious (not really the right word, but whatever). It's cool for GD or General Chat, but I don't really like the idea of posting in the advice forum and that being the first thing someone sees on my profile. Not sure if that's even possible though.
From my experience there is a lot less irrational wife-hatred in this fandom than there is in others. Other than Beezey and a few young kids, I've never really seen anyone insult Adrienne, so at least GD fans are doing something right. I do find the more extreme obsessions with the marriage weird too, though. Nothing wrong with finding it sweet or liking them as a couple at all, but to get as invested in it as some fans do is unhealthy and a bit odd.
Reading the thread about entitlement/crazy fans reminded me that I forgot to share this, which "email@example.com" sent me through the contact form on my professional website a couple of weeks ago.
I don't think I've even mentioned her anywhere recently
Yeah, I've seen way too much of this and it really is embarrassing. I actually felt ashamed to be a GD fan when I saw The Replacements, because you could just tell which people were there in the hope Billie would show up based on whether they were staring and weighing you up or not, and then a few of them booed the band and left when he didn't. Not to mention the loud bragging afterwards about how close they all are to Jesse Malin fair enough to hope Billie might be there, but for fuck's sake, don't then throw a tantrum at the band. I'd understand it if these people were kids but they're adults, man.
I agree, there's a huge difference between what Kay described and natural frustration at something like cancelled shows, which I don't think is acting entitled at all.
I do think the reaction to NiFi on here was normal and understandable, but yeah, you're pretty much spot on otherwise. A lot of people seem to think this attitude is exclusive to one group of fans (travelling fans, newer fans, etc) but there's always some from each who are as bad.
Yeah, come on, some of you guys are being a bit harsh. The band don't owe anything and it is a risk you take when you book gig travel, but it still isn't unreasonable to be upset and hope for some consolation if you've just found out you have redundant flights, which is all Fran and Sara were doing. There's a lot of acting entitled in this fandom for sure, but I don't think they were and there's much worse out there to get angry about, anyway
I'm kind of tempted to go even without knowing if there'll be a secret show now I was planning to go to the US to see my fiance during the summer so it wouldn't be entirely ridiculous. I'm just put off by the, er, exciting location...
I just remembered that when I was about 12, I found a bad translation of a Japanese GD article that said something like "Billie Joe like white women post to America". Some of the other fans I knew didn't get that it had gone through a translator, and got upset because they thought Billie had a mail order bride.
