  1. You can be a fan of a band and not like every thing they do

  2. I disagree they put more effort into Longshot than this. This is obviously new territory for them, the went to Butch Walker knowing what they wanted, no surprise there. I consider effort trying new shit out and breaking the norm. When has GD given us what we were expecting? Except maybe 21CB...I’m enjoying these new songs, won’t lie, FOAM took me by surprise and took me a bit to swallow, but now hearing where this is going I understand it better and I dig it. I just think there’s a lot of repeatedly bashing here for only having heard three songs off the album. I totally get people not liking it though, but don’t call it shit songwriting, or shitty songs just because. It’s not a troll album, this is what GD wants to put out now.

  3. Honestly, even the addition of the sticker makes the cover look better coz it means that we see like 1 percent less of this visual abomination. That's honestly the biggest issue I have with this era at this point. The artwork, it's an atrocity. Unlike some of their songs, THIS will never grow on me 😂

  4. If only the sticker was big enough to cover the whole sleeve

  5. I think I am going to be fine with this album. I wasn't very excited at first but I really like Oh Yeah and the other 2 have grown on me. It's just going to be a short, fun Green Day album. Probably nothing groundbreaking like AI or Dookie was. And that's perfectly okay. I think they're at the point in their career where they should just have fun and enjoy making music. If they're doing that, then I'm good with it (as long as the music isn't completely off-base to who they are, which these songs aren't, in my opinion).

  6. This thread is turning into a shit show. How about we wait until the album is out before judging it and making these blanket statements about the band, producers, etc. It started only when “Father of All...” came out. It was pointless then and it’s pointless now. Anyway... Anyone notice that the album cover was updated to include the PA sticker? I got a screenshot from Apple Music.

  7. Not liking the new music is perfectly fine. It doesn't automatically make you a rock purist. At the same time, just because one of us doesn't like the new songs, they're not trash. Life isn't black and white. There are different opinions. People can listen to whatever they want. No need to judge them for that. This is the music Green Day want to make at this point in their career. I'm still hesitant, but that's ok. So if you don't like the new songs, don't say that they are shit because there is no universal truth. But also don't judge those who don't vibe with the songs because people have different preferences and that's ok.

  8. It's pretty simple for me really. I like every green day album to date. But I don't like the songs released from this album so far, hopefully there is something I enjoy from the rest of the album, or future music. I don't feel like they owe me anything, it's their band they can do what they want. Just stating my opinion... not grabbing me

  9. no ones a purist, were bothered by lazy writing and production. and stop saying this is experimental, it’s a step backward, not forward. i just wanna see billie write songs like a man his age would, he’s a brilliant songwriter. i read lyrics on nimrod and warning and they’re beyond his years. it simply just doesn’t make sense.

  10. Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think Butch's production has been great so far. It's unfair to blame him for making the songs "poppy" when that is more of a stylistic choice Billie and the guys went with when writing/arranging.

  11. I'm starting to think this will be an album you have to digest in full to appreciate it. Listening to the three singles so far back to back makes it more enjoyable than just one at a time, if that makes sense.

  12. You are allowed to not like everything a band releases. It’s okay.

  14. Green Day has the right to go in whatever direction they want. We either support that product or not. I'm just thankful to Billie for the Longshot record. Those songs were classic Green Day sound with good variety in style and instantly clicked with me. Left me wanting nothing more. They are very close to my heart for whatever reason, and my favorite material since AI. That tour was incredible as well.

  15. *yawn* they are all so butthurt right now , these dudes right now just want to have fun I dont get whats so hard to get that through any of these gdcers heads rn

  16. The change lyrically and in maturity of sound from Longshot to Father of All is jarring. He put more effort into a side project material dump than the new GD record.

  17. To be honest, the new songs aren't doing much for me, but then they aren't written for me. Billie, Mike and Tre wrote them for themselves and maybe as a fuck you to everyone else, and that's punk at its basic level. Doing what you want to do and not caring about the reaction or reception, it doesn't get much more punk than that. It may not sound as the 'old' Green Day did, but, in terms of punk, the mentality of the music is 100% there and you can't deny that, even if you don't like the songs.

  18. I'd rather have 7 more Oh Yeahs than 7 revrad stupid "super nova cherry cola" songs.

  19. Honestly, Green Day is one of the biggest rock bands on the planet and I'm fairly certain that they are bigger than any producer they could possibly work with at this point. I'm not super familiar with Butch Walker's work but I doubt that the guys would head into a direction that they don't like, just because the producer tells them to. So Walker probably did what the band wanted him to do.

  20. Still no sign of a full show video of this

  21. Maybe because they think otherwise, and they wanted someone producing this kind of sound. I think it’s unfair to blame Walker for the sound of this record so far. I believe this is the artistic direction the band chose, and they picked Butch because of this, not the other way around. And I do think Butch did a good job so far, of course if you don’t like this artistic direction you are not gonna like the production either.

  22. Is funny how some people think that "oh yeah" is lazy songwriting, when I think is a gem in lyric terms and a deeper step into musical experimentation. Just a show in the myriad of opinions. Is nothing new for Green Day, that always has been passionate on changing sounds record to record. Specially when you know the eclectic nature of the band. It was about time that they absorbed the sound of The Network and make it evolve. This will make it or break it.

  23. I sent of pic of Billie to my sister (one from the oh yeah bts posts) and she’s like whAt?! He’s gonna be 48?! 😂

  24. awww nooo they hurt your little feelings by making music you dont like anymore? I should have known they had been writing music for you this entire time!

  26. I agree. That said, Youngblood is one of their worst songs imo, so the bar isn't high haha

  27. I'm sorry we didn't provide a cola to suit your taste When the deal for GDC is done I'll let the band know GDC prefers grape

  28. I'll never get fed up with trilogy. So many great songs, fuck. If only rehab didn't happen, maybe they would've never ditched it almost completely. Cuatro is also great documentary and I've watched it way too many times already. And all of this was only 8-9 years ago..

  29. I thought he did better with Gob in the early 2000's. Maybe they were a little more involved in the production than Green Day was for this record. Not true. Butch Vig holds valuable knowledge about recording in analogue that the boys wouldn't know. He's pretty much the most knowledgeable when it comes to that process. Btw it's a process that would make the band sound amazing. I'm surprised they never thought of actually trying it.

  30. Maybe the felt they wanted to push themselves out of their comfort zones so it had to be somebody new to them?
    4 points
  31. I like it anyway, but the trilogy with the production of AI or 21CB would be so nice.

  32. I guess look at U2.. they've had some stinkers (look at Pop which was a new sound for them) but they're still going In 10 years time we'll look back and laugh And will prob pee ourselves a little cos we'll be old

  33. As someone that's seen every tour since Dookie ,I don't think there are too many songs I want to see live that I haven't. The RNRHOF House of Blues show was great for that. I just hope they do at least one song from every album (including the Trilogy. I love those albums ) I wish they'd pull a Pearl Jam and do different setlists every show but that's doubtful. I forget they are playing for 20,000 and not the 20 nerds that wanna hear Haushinka.

  39. I don't mind the production at all so far I actually like how the songs sound. The lyrics in Oh Yeah have been my favorite from Billie since maybe 21stcb. I actually believe I'll enjoy this album more than revrad and the trilogy.

  40. This is most probably the least bad Butch Walker did with a rock band, so I'm ok with it. The clap track makes my stomach turn though.

  41. This new record is clearly influenced by Butch Walker pop ways, and that's was we feared when we discovered about that he will be the producer. Don't know why GD accepted work with Butch knowing about your crap work with rock bands, make them sounding poppy as fuck... Until now, I don't know If Green Day choose or Crush suggested him, but I think it was a sad choice.

  42. Dear Eric, I’ve been agreeing with quite a lot of what you have been saying over the last while, but there are times when I feel like you are lumping everyone together and deriding us when we don’t all feel the same, e.g “any of these gdcers”. It would be nice if you could not sound like you think we are all disagreeing with you and respect everyone’s views. Eric, I take it all back, I’ve just come from Shreiking Shack’s new thread and you Sir, are clearly a saint compared to them.

  43. Dude do you remember when 21st Century Breakdown was coming out and in the interviews Billie was saying stuff like "With this new album we have to start showing the world who we really are, being honest about ourselves, how we feel? Right now I feel middle aged". So what's the deal? Was the 21CB era the height of Green Day being honest and putting out the music that they want to make? I honestly don't know what the fuck is going on anymore because if that was the case then what on earth are they doing right now? besides trolling, obviously... PLEASE DEAR GOD BE TROLLING.

  45. I'm watching the King of Hill episode with Green Day I still can't believe that's a thing that actually happened. I just noticed this shirt this guy is wearing: Maybe a reference to Billie???

  46. The perfect response to Billie for the above message would be “If your too lazy then just get Jason to play it like you do with every other song” 🤣
