  1. I am still annoyed that no one has asked them about the album cover in an interview yet. That would be one of the first questions I would ask as an interviewer in this current era of the band!

  2. "Joining me today to talk about their brand new record is grammy award winning rock band Green Day. Welcome Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. So, what the fuck is up with that album cover? Are you all as sick and tired of playing Holiday as the third song of the set as we are hearing it? Will you finally start playing Homecoming again? Or does the unicorn mean all of AI is just a fantasy now and you will never ever play any of those songs again?!"

  3. My man out here throwing pure disrespect at Jason white, I’d been fine with a four piece, but even then I feel that Jason Freese adds a lot to their live sound with his backing vocals as well

  4. that unicorn is pretty aggressive tbh. I know that somebody somewhere is offended I just imagine Billie doing the face mic and dancing like brittney spears or something. I'm sure the fangirl thread would enjoy that but I'd vomit on my American Idiot cd if I saw that.

  6. Oh yeah- I think this song from what I've gathered is thematically going to be like bang bang. Everyone in this day in age wants to be a star and will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame. Meet Me on The Roof- Just judging by the title I'm not sure if it has any political themes or anything. Probably just about meeting friends on a roof and living it up. I was a Teenage Teenager- About growing up as a typical- nothing special about me- teenager according to Billie. That sounds cool. We Losers need to be represented more. Junkies On a High- Like MMOTR I don't think this one is going to have any political themes. Just a story about junkies on a drug bender. Sounds fun. Stab You in The Heart- According to interviews, this one is a Beatleish love song. Probably with an edgy twist seeing the theme of the album and the name of the song. Its probably literally about stabbing someone in the heart. Sugar Youth- The 2nd shortest after FRA. I hope this is the fast, in your face, punk song of the record- like take back. I predict this song will be about living it up while your young. Fits the theme of the album. Take The Money and Crawl- Just judging from the title I think this one will touch on how people do anything for money and some will sell themselves and their souls if they can make a buck doing it. Graffitia- Touch upon how many people are or where getting laid off in the midwest US and those once nice towns are now becoming/have become trashy, graffiti ridden, messes. This is what I've gathered from the interview where they talk about it at least.

  20. He went on a rant at a show (don't remember which) about how he hates the term "old school" because it's for elitists or something. He's probably taking the piss out of people who use it... even though he still does himself

  22. I think as we all see in the history of this thread I have a very unique way of viewing these things. There's definitely a thing I WANT the band to do but it's not tied to my expectations. I understand in an artistic process what I want as an individual doesn't matter. What the majority of the fanbase wants may or may not matter depending on the artist. I think Green Day has a healthy balance of doing what they want to do artistically and giving people what they want to hear. Billie's thought process on the Green Day filter validates that. My expectation for Green Day is based on energy. When they're healthy and firing on all cylinders they have an energy level that can rarely be matched by another group. The first time I was going out to see them live in 2009 one of the people in my network (a 7x platinum artist) called me and let the me know that this was the case. I've witnessed it for myself on several occasions now. Green Day is known for that energy in the industry. I hear a real good pace and energy in these new songs so I'll enjoy it. May not be my favourite effort ever but it's new and fresh and not an LP i've spun 1000 times already.

  23. Lets pull back to FOAM conversation, we are starting to get a little off track. The conversation about how others view different styles of music is interesting but should move to it's own topic if you wish to continue the conversation. Also all comments about the thread being a hot mess and how it is off topic. While self moderation can sometimes help bring the conversation back on topic, we don't need a bunch of comments spamming that it is off topic. There is a report button, please us it. Verbal warning points will be issued from this point on, if you chose to carry on the topic discussion.

  28. I love me some Jason White, and would love for him to become official again. It was painful to not include him. Let's say that after they do a few shows as a trio, they realize he has always been an official member and they correct it. From then on, Jason White is writing songs, singing lead on one per album and kicking butt. Mike Dirnt and Tre have backing vocals covered. I absolutely love the Big Three (in all of it's incarnations) and anyone who performs with them. They are all there for a reason. I would be okay with Green Day becoming an actual six piece and even some Freeze-Fronted stuff (imagine!) But for this new, down and dirty thing they are going for, three guy rocking out (sans face mic, eww) would be epic. No running around. No heyy oohs. They shred through 37 hits, 3 more obscure tracks and walk off stage. No encore. Just GREEN DAY. Three shows like that so it wouldn't get old. Now I think I will go watch some footage of old Green Day shows. The Three Daddys TRUMP Father of all MotherF(woo)ers Tour

  31. They could for older songs. It wouldn't be practical for the newer songs (post AI) because a lot of the songs were composed knowing they had these resources available to them. It's not impossible to strip it down because of how Billie writes music but I don't think it's something they'd explore. For me there's more fun in the speculating and what ifs. I find on this forum now once the song drops it's just a huge tally of "I like it" or "I dont like it" and all the participants keep jumping back and forth between the two lmao I get it though being a fan of this band is such an in depth thing and they have so many songs and eras and albums. That's what keeps it easy being a fan. There's something in the discography for every moment of your life. New music can be shocking as well cause it's something we haven't heard them do before. I'd be lying to say I wasn't shocked when i first heard FOAMF. The confusion and shock warranted a couple more listens to digest it. Before going into listening to the album we need to remember that this fan base is way too large to be able to make everyone happy or even the majority happy. It's evident in our trilogy tracklists. I hardly ever see the same people pick the same group of songs if they had to condense it to a 14-18 song album. For me that's the most interesting part about the effort. They're going to proceed either with doing what they feel like doing or moving in a direction that may be best for the band at the present time and in the future. For me I'm going into this album excited to hear that. What I love is that all the sings are track 1-3. Hearing those songs again when first spinning the vinyl is going to build up that excitement for Track 4 and the rest of the album. I don't care about opinions of people on here, billboard positions, first week sales or streaming numbers. I want to go into it with a state of no opinions or expectations and take it in. I want it to be personal without the influences of external factors. Bulletproof Backpack

  32. Definitely, although the answer is a little more complicated than that. More generally speaking, I think it's fair to say Green Day played a lot of their songs the fastest in the 90s, but in terms of American Idiot and onwards, I would argue they started off roughly at album speed (listen to Bullet In A Bible), then during the 21CB and Trilogy tours they played a lot of the songs more quickly, including American Idiot, KYE and When I Come Around etc. And then, since RevRad they've been playing everything more slowly again. It actually kinda drives me nuts occasionally. American Idiot doesn't bother me that much somehow, but KYE really seems to drag on when not played at 21CB tour drug fuelled speed lol

  38. NME article "Green Day reveal new album title was inspired by Slayer’s Kerry King" https://www.nme.com/news/music/green-day-reveal-new-album-title-was-inspired-by-slayers-kerry-king-2592020 "It's just a badass title" Green Day have revealed how the title of their upcoming third album was inspired by advice from Slayer‘s Kerry King. Speaking to Kerrang, singer Billie Joe Armstrong revealed how the album title ‘Father Of All…’ was chosen because it sounded “badass”. “It’s just a badass title,” he said. “I think it was Kerry King from Slayer – they have an album called ‘God Hates Us All’, and someone asked, ‘Do you really think God hates us all?’ And he goes, ‘I don’t know! It’s just a badass title!’ As soon as the title came up, I was like, ‘Oh man, this is good.’” The punk icons also revealed how they explored a wide variety of genres as they geared up to start making the record – including Motown. “We don’t want to do what everyone would expect us to do, so it was just kinda mischief and making it fun,” Tre Cool explained. “That was the bottom line of it.” “There’s a very fine line threading the needle for us, because we do want to try new things, but we always want to make sure it’s absolute Green Day, you know?” Armstrong added. It comes as Green Day prepare to head out on the Hella Mega Stadium tour later this year – which sees them hitting the road with the likes of Fall Out Boy and Weezer. The dates will kick off in Europe, with UK and Ireland gigs taking place at the end of June. All three will then return to North America for a headline tour across July and August. Lots of articles about this if anyone is interested: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/8547634/green-day-looking-for-fan-house-album-release-show https://loudwire.com/green-day-backyard-party/ https://www.spin.com/2020/01/green-day-backyard-show-dennys-show/ https://www.sfgate.com/subculture-events/article/Green-Day-wants-to-play-in-your-backyard-new-album-14963270.php https://www.radiox.co.uk/artists/green-day/green-day-are-offering-to-play-a-fans-back-yard/ ____ Article here from Far Out Magazine "Remembering Green Day’s muddy and bloody performance at Woodstock 1994": https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/green-day-woodstock-1994-performance-mud-fight/ There are several moments of grubby grandeur amongst the long career of iconic pop-punkers Green Day. Yet if you’re looking for a seminal moment in the band’s career it’s hard to look past the mud-caked revelry of their 1994 Woodstock set, the 25th anniversary of the legendary festival. Going back some 25 years, the trio was far from the festival headliners they are today and found themselves playing the less than desirable South Stage during Bob Dylan and the Allman Brothers’ sets on the main stage. It would split the crowd and drive a young audience towards the pulsating punk energy of Green Day. When you place a young crowd (without the watching eyes of the Dylan-viewing parents of the event) in front of a band like Green Day were in 1994 – full of beans, off the back of their seminal record Dookie, and with a lead singer with the bit between their teeth – all hell is more than likely to break free from its shackles. Prior to the band’s performance, the event experienced a heavy downpour which turned the dustbowl space into a mud pit. You can see where this is going. With Dookie having been out for nearly five months when Green Day took to the stage, the trio of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool saw the stage at Woodstock as an opportunity to make their name. That opportunity landed even more squarely at their feet with a huge, wet, filthy splat of the first mudball launched from the crowd. That opportunity landed even more squarely at their feet with a huge, wet, filthy splat of the first mudball launched from the crowd. Drummer Tre Cool recalled the moment the crowd (and later the band) took part in a gigantic mud fight. “It got all chaotic, we kept trying to play, but Billie [Joe Armstrong] was getting mud hitting his guitar and Mike [Dirnt] was getting it on his bass and hitting him. Luckily my drum set was just far enough back where I was less in harm’s way… It was punk as fuck, and nobody expected that to happen.” All hell finally broke free from its shackles and as the mud flung from the crowd rained down on the stage like some kind of biblical dirty protest. A security guard would mistake Mike Dirnt for a crazed fan and smashed his front teeth out. The next moment in a long line of punk revelry would see Billie Joe Armstrong pulled down his trousers and flash the crowd while being pelted with mud, it was not something that would go down well with his mother, Ollie Armstrong. “She sent me a hate letter afterwards,” the singer told Rolling Stone‘s Chris Mundy in 1994. “She said that I was disrespectful and indecent and that if my father was alive, he would be ashamed of me. She couldn’t believe that I pulled my pants down and got in a fight onstage. She even talked shit about my wife, Adrienne, and how she’s supposed to be my loving wife, but she’s never even come over and visited. It was pretty brutal.” As brutal as it may have been, it remains one of the punkiest moments that has ever happened at Woodstock and a shining merit badge on the rock and roll scout sash of Green Day.
