Hey, if you find the remakes great and can still enjoy it despite the pandering then good on you for that. Everyone has their own take on things and their own tastes. What may ruin it for some might not for others. It's interesting now that there's a medium where all views are shared and not just major critic views. I know I enjoy many things most people don't and that doesn't bug me, and I don't like things many people like. It again is all in taste. Something's I just can't get over which impact a film or piece of art as a whole. I can still enjoy it and be entertained but feel there's always something more that could have been done or something that is just missing (this is all general talk as of now). Something's I'll find absolutely brilliant but then hear backlash from others about faults they find. Their problem not mine, and it's my problem when I don't enjoy something as much as others. Least remakes don't replace source material as that will always be around to enjoy.

What about.... Those Green Day inner circle / members who snoop in here, wait until we've got our hopes up on a date, then avoid it. So we should stop guessing actual dates, and then it will come. Just like ordering a taxi when the bus hasn't turned up, then 3 buses come. (no I'm not implying a trilogy from this comment for those that like to read into stuff!)

We are only saying we didn't need a Ghostbusters remake because the remake sucked. There have been a ton of great remakes. I am a huge Tim Curry fan and I was infuriated that they were making a new It. There was no way anyone other than Tim Curry could be Pennywise. But, the It remake was amazing. I can't wait for the 2nd half. I can see how someone might think it is pandering, but who the fuck cares if it is great. Maybe, this woman will be a great Bond. My only regret is that there was a rumor that Richard Madden might be the new Bond and there is never enough Richard Madden on screen.

Didn't wanna post until it was official, but I finally end yet another unemployment rut of a few months 'cause I'll be starting full time as a veterinary assistant later this week! I'm looking forward to it and really hope it'll be fulfilling and a good fit for me.

This is a good point too. While I applaud strong women being cast in these roles, the cynic in me does wonder if it's a pandering move. As we mentioned earlier, we didn't really need a Ghostbusters remake. Honestly, I would've been happier seeing an entirely new story set in that universe with the same cast. It does feel incredibly lazy to just remake a movie and throw in women actors to say "See? We're progressive!" I wanna see new movies with these badass leads, not a rehash of what we've already done, especially if you're just telling the same story. So while I don't really mind these casting choices, I do often question it. And I don't want to get started on the Disney remakes. The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie and the remake just irks me for so many different reasons. It's so unnecessary and as someone else mentioned, it feels like they're pushing CG too much. I get it, it's impressive, but there's something stunning about 2D animation, especially when Disney does it.

From what I saw I thought that everything but the music was awesome. The animations are spot on, but I don't like how Beyonce sounds in Can You Feel the Love Tonight 😕

Beyond the milking for money effort I feel like they make such changes just to pander and to offer a little bit of alteration just so they don the look as lazy as they are. I love almost all the original movies and I don't see the need in remaking it unless you want to tell the story in a very different fashion with different tones to expand on it. I feel like the jungle book somewhat delivered on that. The only remake I've seen. I also hate how there is this trend for things to be done in specific ways now. I understand embracing new technologies and incorporation of 3D animation and cgi but I think it's also a creative rut. I'm such a fan of the 2d animation and pained backgrounds and can rewatch movies and see so many new things all the time. I wish we wouldn't trend away from it because there is so many things that can still be done with it. I see so many new styles and it amazes me. Then I see 3D models incorporated in a 2d environment and I just feel robbed of what could have been an artistic experience for the sake of using new technology. So many levels that butchery takes place over. also this all made me think that I can relate to those who get upset when an original character is altered. Fucking Scarlet Jo again to fuck it all up with being cast as the major in ghost in the shell. Fuck her. But yeah, a remake that I never got to see but I hear incredibly disappointing things about it. I know I have to see it for myself to make my own opinion but I'm afraid of what I'll find. Oh yeah and talk about a strong female lead... And it is absolutely a race issue with Scarlet Jo, but it's also that from what I hear the character was also altered and made "weaker" in a sense. The whole artistic approach deviated from a masterpiece, when I feel like (and I think everyone else somewhat shared this feeling) that the new technology was meant to capture that masterpiece in a new visual brilliance. Kind of what I feel like the new Disney films were meant to do. It sucks though when the source material is so good and it feels like it's trampled by these new films. I guess they should all be viewed as separate entities, rather than holding them up to the standards of what they're based on. I also feel like why not try to make something new rather than taking masterpieces and distorting them because it's a huge set up for failure and we already got to experience the brilliance of the film, no need to recycle it

I’ve read reviews that did not like it much at all. Aside from the most of the music. Not all but most.

I mean I really want to like the new Lion King, but the original was so good that nothing can come close to it, so I hope that it's at least decent.

If they fucking screw up Lion King I'm gonna be so pissed. I heard some of the songs and I don't really like them. The originals were so much better 😕

No, that makes total sense. I feel the same way. Everyone deserves better than most of what we're getting. I pretty much hated the live-action "remake" of Beauty and the Beast and part of that was because Disney and Emma Watson were trying to shove "Belle is a feminist now!!!" down our throats since it was first announced. I found her performance to be average at best and I didn't find her any more "empowered" than the original Belle. It seemed like pandering for the sake of pandering and I didn't feel it was genuine. The same could be said for the "LeFou is gay now!!!" statements. Disney and those who worked on the new Aladdin did the same thing with Jasmine and said some ridiculous things like her only goal was to find a man in the original movie (um, that's basically the opposite of what she wanted?) and that the new Jasmine was so much better because she's "feminist" now. They justified saying that because she has a handmaiden friend in this movie (who ends up just being interested in finding a man) and a new song about not being silenced (which, hilariously, Jasmine sings to no one). They also removed the scene where she pole vaults across the roof and changed it to her cowering in fear. Very empowered. I'm someone who believes the original Disney princess movies aren't horrible and won't ruin a girl's life if she watches and enjoys them. I don't get why they've become a target.

I don't mind strong female characters being in movies and TV, but strong female characters for the sake of strong female characters is just pandering and it can choke on my average size nuts

Action movies are the worst though. And they usually feature men as lead roles. Well actually I liked the first John Wick, probably the only action movie I like.

This got me thinking, and this is all just me thinking aloud at this point. I think this has been raised before in a post before but in a different way. We definitely come with a lot of hang ups in society and it is great that many things are being released to shake things up, break free from the "norms" and make us think deeper and more open minded. Then there is the other side of the coin that makes you wonder if it's just a pander job to get all those extra points for being different with no great intent behind it. I feel like doing the all women cast as a reboot version isn't very groundbreaking. I didn't watch it and am indifferent either way. I find the backlash even more ridiculous which does point out how fucked our society is, but at the same time I think the finer points are lost in the brainless rambles of idiots. I think we have a lot of potential to make great and diverse films, however we aren't doing any justice with remakes that don't show much originality and creativity and those respective worlds. That probably went no where but eh, all your points are valid and society is incredibly fucked.

If he really did then I would suggest to ignore him because thats the worst thing you could do in such a kind of forum. We are all fans. We are all getting hyped now and the worst thing you can do to such a group is to give them false hopes.
