What to do with "Musicians' Lounge"?

Musicians Lounge just simply isn't working the way we hoped. I'm fairly certain that we're going to just get rid of it all together. It didn't work as "The Underground" when it was called that, and it's not working now. Even when GDC is active, it's still under-utilized and kinda feels like we're just pushing people off to a subforum that's hardly read for the sake of putting it there. Right now there's only a few people that use it regularly.

So - let's talk about alternatives. I'm open to ideas. Here's my current thought:

We close it down. We'll just close the threads in there to "archive" them, move them to General Chat so they can be found later if anyone has stuff there they want to keep. People can open more specific topics in General Chat ("guitar tips", or "Share Your Work", etc.) and if people want a dedicated place to post all their music - they can do so in a blog.

I think that system will work best. Any thoughts on this?

I know that I personally just use the blogs instead of the musician's lounge because the lounge is so unused. I think the blogs cover it

Musician's Lounge is like one of those fancy waiting areas in deluxe cinemas. It sounds so cool and hip in theory, but in actuality it's boring and no one uses it.

I don't really use it any more cos I've stopped playing guitar, but I don't see anything wrong with it. The last post in there was only 3 and a half hours ago, it's not that underused.

I'd hazard a guess that the On the Road subforum is used much less frequently.

I agree with Tom and Hermione. No need for me to retype what they've already said.

It's not just for posting work though, there's a lot more to it than that.

I don't see why we have to make this place so super-organized. This is already the best-kept forum I've ever visited, and getting rid of subforums that people do still in fact use seems to be overkill.

This is what blogs are for, is it not?

Sharing work, yeah, but not for generally discussing instruments, songwriting and suchlike, which is mostly what the subforum's used for.

So yeah, what Tom said.

But that's for general conversations and this is more specific.

I agree with Tom btw.

Well it could have been that there'd be a subforum for people to make threads for their creative works including words, art, photos, audio recordings, videos, etc. That option kind of went down in flames when WIMHA got axed though.

^Yeah, that idea makes the most sense to me. Just a creative subforum, no need to subdivide it based on art/music/writing, etc.

I like that idea a lot more than having them split up.
