Lyrics: This Time

The idea behind this, word play surrounding 'time' came to me about two months ago. I was talking to a friend about someone I was involved with, saying that this time it felt different, completely different from last time. The way we use previous events as precedent in love intrigues me and I had a story to tell, that feeling of feeling like you never want to trust again after having your heart broken in the past. This is talking about the same girl as I did in a previous set of lyrics,

Are We Going Anywhere? and it's that realisation that if you want to move on in life you have to be brave at realise that next time doesn't have to be like last time, and that if it's right, next time might just be the last time. I like the way those words flow. I like the notion. The verses are the most honest account of our relationship I could possibly give. I'd love to hear your thoughts, if anyone as any.

This Time

This is the second time I would have fallen in love

This is the first time I wasn't brave enough

Because the last time didn't go so well

And I swore next time there wouldn't be a next time

I was more than ready to never settle down

And not apologise for getting around

To the next night out in the same old town

With the same old faces but different girls

Sleeping in my bed, passing over my head

And only waking me when the door slammed shut

Behind another name I couldn't quite remember

But you never left so how could I forget

This is the second time I would have fallen in love

This is the first time I wasn't brave enough

Because the last time didn't go so well

And I swore next time I wouldn't put myself on the line

Time has healed those wounds

At the right time, when I met you

But I turned away when you held my hand

Because this time, I knew there'd be no next time

I was taken in by you ignoring me

And never running circles or pretending

That you wanted more than just a casual thing

It already was too late, this wasn't just a fling

It was something more, I knew it straight away

When you would come round mine any time of day

Or night and we'd stay up the whole time talking

When the lights went off we got the whole room rocking

This is the second time I would have fallen in love

This is the first time I wasn't brave enough

Because the last time didn't go so well

And I swore next time I wouldn't put myself on the line

Time has healed those wounds

At the right time, when I met you

But I turned away when you held my hand

Because this time, I knew there'd be no next time

...

This is the second time that I've fallen in love

After the first time just wasn't enough

Because the last time I wasn't with you

And I swear this time...

There'll be no third time, cause I'll have you

Turns out the second time the love ran true

For the last time I said I love you

For the first time I know there'll be no next time

This is a really interesting concept. I love the first two lines and the last four too. Nice work!

This is really great.

"Time has healed those wounds
At the right time, when I met you"

That's my favourite part! Good job.

I loved it so much. It just had such a relatable honest to heart concept, extremely well written and all. It's wonderful.
