The mod team has often closed threads based on our individual judgments, basically "if we don't think it should be open, we can close it." We decided that this left way too much room for disagreement between the mod team about what should and shouldn't be closed. We've agreed to all follow the below criteria for closing a thread and we want to make sure you guys know when we will.
#1: Duplicate thread: Another similar thread already exists and is moderately active.
#2: Spam thread: We a
If you've read the GDCcrets thread in the last day you've read about an issue that has come up with one user harassing others with explicit comments after being told to stop. The mod team takes these reports very seriously, but we agree that we took too long in this case and we have been talking about ways to fix this.
First off, we will institute an immediate 24 hour suspension once we get a report about another member harassing someone else. During this time we will look into the issue, g
I'm excited to announce that Florence has been added to the team as a GDA Staff member, where she'll be helping us out with the Picture Vault. She'll also be a part of conversations here on GDC in the mod forum to help with ideas and discussions related to GDC.
We welcome her to the team and are very excited to have her on board

There's a lot of cool stuff happening around the forum whether it's interesting blogs, awesome artwork, interesting topics and discussions, contests or just something fun. We need someone whose role is to help highlight these things on a regular basis through forum announcements, blog posts or social media. I'm creating a specific team position just for this responsibility titled Community Manager. This person will be responsible for highlighting interesting stuff and helping the team with conte
Hello folks, I'd like to introduce you to your new moderator: @Todd.
You may recognize him most from the GD downloads section but in the background he has been active in our team discussions. Due to his consistent activities we decided we should give him full moderator powers. He has been a media mod since May of 2015.
Congrats to being more orange buddy!
We've installed an over-the-top Halloween theme for those of you needing a little more to get you into the holiday spirit. Anyone can switch to it now by clicking "Change Theme" on the bottom left of the forum. We'll make it the default theme on the 31st. And probably take it away from you guys some time after that.
We've re-organized the forum once again. This change creates a new "Interests" category and moves Clubs back to the main page as part of that new category, puts Brink and Musicians under a new 'Creativity' subforum, and moves Movies, TV, Books and "Other Artists" into a new subforum called "Entertainment". We've also decided to remove Shenanigans. We didn't feel that most topics were used often and didn't really feel like they were adding much at this point. So we've taken two of the most pop

This idea was proposed by John in this blog, where we talked about what to do with the Musicians subforum, and I'm actually pretty interested in it and would like some feedback from the community.
A problem that we have with the creative subforums is that they just simply aren't used much. A handful of people use each section (Brink, Musicians, and Words I Might Have Ate before it was tossed away). I just don't like having subforums that only a small group of people use, that doesn't make se
This latest update was just a maintence release to fix a few issues.
however you will notice that we've updated the logo and icons to now fit more accordingly with the trilogy. yay! Thanks to Bum for working on finding a color scheme that worked well.
We've also created a new subforum just for Green day news. more info here.
There are still things I need to do to the skins (update user info that sits on the left of each post, put back links and rep at the top of the site, etc.), but
I'm very happy to share that we've brought two new people on to the GDC Mod Team, inthehallwaynow (also known as Matt, but because we already have two other Matt's on the team, we've been calling him hallwaymatt), and 'Second favourite son' (I don't know your real name, so I've just been calling you SFS).
Things are starting to get really busy around here and we really wanted some new people on board to help specifically with the Green Day sections.
Welcome to both of you! Very happy
I'm very pleased to announce that we are promoting Lone to be our admin here on GDC. She will be taking a larger role in helping lead the moderating team and the direction we move the forum in.
Many of you know Lone as someone who has been in charge of the chat for some time now, behind the scenes she's been an incredibly helpful part of the team and someone I trust immensely.
I'm excited to have her help lead the team and the forum. Congrats on the promotion, Lone. Enjoy your six figur
Now that the dust is starting to settle with the upgrade, I'd like to ask for your help in covering some of the costs. In total the upgrade cost around $150 more than we usually spend on GDC - here's a breakdown of the costs: New theme: $55 Paid Plugins: $46 Mega Account re-activated for downloads: $15 There were some other fees, but since it was my own fuck-up I'm not asking for any help with that. If you help out with more than $5 you'll be put into a special group to disable all GDC ads for

Very happy to announce that Katarina will be joining the team as a new moderator. Because everyone else on the team hates Green Day, she'll be mostly focusing on the Green Day Chat area of the forum that all the other mods actively avoid.
Katarina, glad to have you on the team, and looking forward to crushing noobs with you when these albums start rolling out.
We have to pay $50 to renew our licence (every 6 months) with Invision. This pays for the forums, blogs, and chat. It's also totally understandable that not everyone can afford to help the sites and that's perfectly fine. Being an active member here is already very appreciated and all we really expect of our members. But if you have $5 and feel like giving us hand, that's appreciated too.
UPDATE: We reached the $50 goal. Thanks to everyone who helped!

We have decided to lower the length of how long a warning point lasts from 60 to 15 days. Along with that, the member will lose access to "Clubs" and "Shenanigans" on their first warning. Sounds like a grand time right? But wait, the member will also be limited to 10 posts per day.
The suspension will continue to increase with multiple warning points within the 15 days. Here is the breakdown of how long the suspensions will be with each warning point:
1 warning point: 24 hour suspension
While evaluating the usefulness of some sections of the forum, we decided it was time to re-structure some of our content around GDC. We've made the following changes to hopefully encourage better conversation or at least grouping content that makes more sense.
To start off we're completely removing two forums:
This forum never really worked like we hoped it would. While we wanted a place to encourage people to talk about their own music, it ended up working more like a

Asking for some donations for GDC to cover some costs. We have our license renewal which is $50, and the updated dark theme we got with the last upgrade was $20.

I've just finished installing the most recent update for Invision Power Board. There have been no major changes. Just some tweaks to improve functionality and a lot of background changes to make the forum run smoother and more quickly in the long run (probably won't be noticeable to most users).
Note: I'm currently working on upgrading the light theme. It will be ready to use sometime tomorrow.

The mod team is interested in hearing your feedback about GDC and the mod team. We want you guys to be completely honest and up-front with us, so we're taking this survey anonymously here
There are only 3 questions. Please be constructive with any criticism you have. The entire team will be reading these over to see how we can improve GDC and improve how we run the forum.
We have decided to change the length of suspensions handed out when we give warnings. The old system was more on a "case by case" basis after your second warning. Previous we would decide how long it should be for (it usually was 7 days, then 15 days, then 30 days). Here's the new setup
1 warning point: 24 hour suspension
2 warning points: 48 hour suspension
3 warning points: 72 hour suspension
4 warning points: 96 hour suspension
5 warning points: Account will be permanently banned.
