Hey everyone, welcome back to GDC. Sorry if you guys felt lost or worried that we'd never come back online. The upgrade finally went through - and this blog is to list a few of the major changes. First off, everything posted after July 18th is lost (PM's, posts, statues, etc.). This is because the failed upgrade Andres attempted last weekend was causing some problems when we tried again, so he had to restore the database to an earlier state and in doing so, lost the most recent data. The mod team has unanimously decided to stop allowing ask.fm links in status updates. We'll be deleting them from now on. We'll also be removing any other anonymous type q&a sites like anonymous questions via tumblr.
The are two major reasons for this change:
1) We're tired of all the promotional links for ask in status updates. There are just way too many that it's nearly removed any value from the status feature. It's become a place simply to promote ask.fm links and everything el

It's actually real, it finally happened. Liam sent me enough nudes to finally give him the promotion to admin. Starting today he'll be helping run this place and manage the team. He also re-joined the GDA news team recently and will helping run things over there as well.

The company that makes the forum software, Invision, recently announced that they were no longer going to develop their own chat system. The chat system hasn't had any real updates in quite a long time and they decided they'd be better off putting those resources into making the forums themselves better.

Today we're going to be testing out a change here on the forum which will disable signatures by default for all users.
You still have the option to re-enable signatures if you prefer seeing them, just go your 'Ignore Preferences' in settings and uncheck "Ignore all signatures when reading topics and personal messages".

I try not to do this often except when it's really needed. Over the last month we've had to pay for licenses and the new skin. In total it was around $200 and I was hoping we could get some help from you guys to cover the extra costs. We already pay for the servers each month on our own (around $200/month just for GDC), but when extra costs like this come up, things get a little tight.

Just over a year ago when the team decided to promote me to media we decided that we were going to redo the whole forum. With the many setbacks including meagupload getting taken down, having to reformat the threads and me just being busy with school in general, its finally finished and here it is.
With this downloads forum we decided to take a different approach to the design. With the original it was split by audio and video then into section for where ever it belonged and then into era. We
We're happy to announce that BeachBum (Val) has been promoted to a global mod.
Bum started out as a chat mod then started helping us with pictures in the media forums and helping organize and clean up the Picture Vault. She's been dedicating a lot of time to help improve this place, and I'm glad to finally have her on board as a global mod.
In December of last year I decided to disable signatures by default for all members plus any members that registered. I felt this change would be a net positive for the forum, and while I still believe that, it's clear that those who care most about signatures felt differently. After some thinking I realized it was unfair for me to make this change without broad support from the forum. As of today I've re-enabled signatures across the forum.

We decided to merge the Green Day News & Green Day Chat subforums. We had originally split them up because we planned on tying GDC and GDA together so we wanted a place to store all the individual stories that we were putting on GDA. We also felt when things were very active it kinda made sense to have everything split up. But I've never been a huge fan of having things too organized, where similar conversations can go in two different places depending on why the topic was made there to begi
We've decided to re-organize a little bit on GDC. As many know, I strongly dislike having a long list of subforums on the index. i think it gets confusing and a bit daunting. I've always felt the "Community" and "General" subforums were a little mixed. @Amanda gave me the idea of having an "Interests" subforum to put related content together and I really liked that. Excited to announce today that Cat C.(Cathy) is joining the GDC team as our first-ever Community Manager. She will be helping us out by updating the Facebook Page and GDC Twitter account with interesting stuff around the forum.
She will also be helping us organize contests and create regular stuff for you guys to get involved with. Because this is a new role, exactly how it works out will change over time. The main focus is to help build a stronger community on GDC.
