As some of you tend to notice, at some points features get disabled for a short period of time on days when there's big news. Well there's a reason for this:
The server GDC is hosted on can only hold a certain amount of users on at one time. Of course the times we get too many members online is when a big announcement is made (Oh Love being released, new songs being released/leaked, etc).

The mod team has often closed threads based on our individual judgments, basically "if we don't think it should be open, we can close it." We decided that this left way too much room for disagreement between the mod team about what should and shouldn't be closed. We've agreed to all follow the below criteria for closing a thread and we want to make sure you guys know when we will.
#1: Duplicate thread: Another similar thread already exists and is moderately active.
#2: Spam thread: We a
Musicians Lounge just simply isn't working the way we hoped. I'm fairly certain that we're going to just get rid of it all together. It didn't work as "The Underground" when it was called that, and it's not working now. Even when GDC is active, it's still under-utilized and kinda feels like we're just pushing people off to a subforum that's hardly read for the sake of putting it there. Right now there's only a few people that use it regularly.

I'm very happy to share that we've brought two new people on to the GDC Mod Team, inthehallwaynow (also known as Matt, but because we already have two other Matt's on the team, we've been calling him hallwaymatt), and 'Second favourite son' (I don't know your real name, so I've just been calling you SFS).
Things are starting to get really busy around here and we really wanted some new people on board to help specifically with the Green Day sections.

In December of last year I decided to disable signatures by default for all members plus any members that registered. I felt this change would be a net positive for the forum, and while I still believe that, it's clear that those who care most about signatures felt differently. After some thinking I realized it was unfair for me to make this change without broad support from the forum. As of today I've re-enabled signatures across the forum.

Due to the inactivity of Video & Audio and Picture forums in Other Artists, we have decided to go ahead and remove both subforums.
Both forums only have a few topics that are fairly active as well as they have not been looked after in many years causing it to be a complete mess with duplicate threads and threads that aren't suppose to be there.
From this day forward, if you wish to request/post in audio, video, or pictures from an artist, you can do so in their respective thread in O
I've just finished installing the most recent update for Invision Power Board. There have been no major changes. Just some tweaks to improve functionality and a lot of background changes to make the forum run smoother and more quickly in the long run (probably won't be noticeable to most users).

We've finally gotten around to moving old tour topics from this year into the read-only Previous Tour Dates section. Since all those shows happened more than 3 months ago, there's not really much to continue discussing. Instead we'll keep them as read-only topics so people can look back on them in the future if they wish to. They've been put into subforums for each region, which includes topics for shows going back to 2009.
Right now the On The Road forum only includes upcoming dates in Aust
Here's something new I'm thinking of doing. Every Saturday posting the top 10 most active topics this week. If you're interested, I've also started tweeting the top most active thread each day (not in the tour forum) over on our twitter (@GDCforum). I've finally got the Facebook Connect features working on GDC. You can now tie your Facebook account in with GDC.
"But why the fuck would I want to do that?"
Fair question, but please watch your language. When you tie your account together your status updates posted on Facebook will automatically update your GDC status and vice versa (or you can choose in your settings to only do one way or the other). The past few weeks a lot of you may have noticed you haven't been able to access the site at certain times because the server crashing. Part of the problem has been due to some of the large threads that are very active and the strain those threads have on the server.
Because of this we have restarted a lot of threads over 1,000 posts. Not all, but mostly the very active ones.
We hope this will help some of our problems with the server and load-times.
Just over a year ago when the team decided to promote me to media we decided that we were going to redo the whole forum. With the many setbacks including meagupload getting taken down, having to reformat the threads and me just being busy with school in general, its finally finished and here it is.
With this downloads forum we decided to take a different approach to the design. With the original it was split by audio and video then into section for where ever it belonged and then into era. We
The mod team has unanimously decided to stop allowing ask.fm links in status updates. We'll be deleting them from now on. We'll also be removing any other anonymous type q&a sites like anonymous questions via tumblr.
The are two major reasons for this change:
1) We're tired of all the promotional links for ask in status updates. There are just way too many that it's nearly removed any value from the status feature. It's become a place simply to promote ask.fm links and everything el
Today we're going to be testing out a change here on the forum which will disable signatures by default for all users.
You still have the option to re-enable signatures if you prefer seeing them, just go your 'Ignore Preferences' in settings and uncheck "Ignore all signatures when reading topics and personal messages".

We have decided to remove the Club Leaders special group we formed when we launched the Clubs subforum last year.
This group was initially meant as a simple type of incentive and recognition for users who started a club. After seeing it in action we don't believe this group is really necessary and wasn't accomplishing what we hoped it would.
Any users who were part of the Club Leaders group have now been defaulted back to the the standard Members group.

Now that the dust is starting to settle with the upgrade, I'd like to ask for your help in covering some of the costs.
