You know, that new Green Day video brightened up an otherwise dreary day kind of bit. A nice injection of excitement is surely welcome, especially when you get to think, for a split second, that you've found something before GDA has (true story, I think I posted the video in the album thread like simultaneously with the GDA post as it was being mentioned NOWHERE on the forum...not to mention I was in before the 300 view cap that Youtube has (seen on the left there). The drums in that clip actually remind me of MCR's "Vampire Money" so I keep expecting (and hearing) guitars coming and Billie to be all "3 2 1, we came to fuck!" Let's face it, it's definitely something we could expect him to say. I actually love Vampire Money a lot and well...now that I've heard it in my mind I can't unhear Billie singing that first line. Ah clips, they tease! Wonderfully, I might add.
And here's some nostalgia for ya:
Remember how awesome that was? I sure do. I freaked OUT when I heard this bit in Viva La Glora (Little Girl). It's safe to say I'm a sucker for little stuff like this.
In other news, I've actually had a rather productive day. First off, we have a blog about how awesome Pokemon is...well honestly I'm not sure I think the entry does the feeling I'm trying to describe justice...but if you know what I'm talking about, comment me here or there! I'd love to talk Poke with ya.
Pocket Sized Irony
I also recorded some new episodes of my Fire Emblem Let's Play...doing the audio with a Rock Band mic. Compared to the video I posted yesterday, the sexy in my voice has increased rather dramatically.
Or maybe it's just the clarity. Other than that I've been failing really really hard at doing homework today. This is why we don't schedule classes for five days a week, kids! Ah well, I'll still get it done. And hey, I guess this makes me the first person to have a second blog entry! The REAL shocker? It's actually not such a bad post either.
This isn't really a blog post, it's just a bit of an introduction.
This is a good idea! I shall be posting in this blog a lot in the future. It will probably replace the blog I already have now (no, not Tumblr), so...yeah! Exciting times.
I haven't written a blog since I was about twelve years old but I very much like the idea of having them here!
I have spent the entirety of today throwing up and sleeping; far too much of a regular occurence nowadays. I fully expect tomorrow to be the same, but without the vomming, student life is far too easy. I love it.
Well. Blogging. I'll be honest, I'm new to this. This is for a number of reasons, but probably the biggest one is that I'm pretty socially awkward, even on the Internet, where we're all essentially anonymous. I worry too much about whether anyone agrees or cares with or about what I have to say. Well, I say that's the main reason, but more likely is that I've always felt I'm too young to be doing this, at 14, so I am old enough to make an account on most websites, but there's a sort of assumption on the Internet that those under 20 or so aren't old enough to have an opinion. Anyway, enough ranting.
What I actually wanted to talk about for this, my inaugural blog post, if you will, is video games. But before you hit that back button, read on for a bit. See, with most games, they are entertaining and engaging enough to warrant my attention long enough to play them. After that, though, then what? An example I'd like to take is that of Sonic Generations. I'm probably the biggest Sonic fan you're ever likely to meet, yet after I beat Generations for the first time, I had little urge to replay it. Sure, I did, but after getting my best times possible, finding the red rings and so on, the game became repetitive as I memorised the layout of all the levels, so it became more an exercise of my thumb's reflexes on the 'X' and 'A' buttons. It's almost depressing to play now, as the game I spent the first playthrough open-mouthed the whole way through becomes a boring flash of colour.
Not all linear games feel like this, though. Half-Life 2 is an infamously linear game that could be (now patched) exploited to finish it in record time. Despite this, every playthrough feels fresh, and it never gets boring, even though it's been 8 years since it came out. Puzzles I struggled horribly with on my first playthrough became a lot easier on subsequent ones, though it feels a more satisfying ease then that of platformers.
And now for something completely different. Well, not completely, I guess. Despite the fact that repetition is usually reserved for the entertainment of 2 year olds (and Radio 1. ZING!), no matter how much I listen to Green Day, I never get a feeling of repetition. I have a playlist on my iPod that consists of Green Day, MCR, Guns N' Roses and AC/DC, and it doesn't matter how many times I play it, I never get tired of it. Hearing the same songs, singing the same lyrics, even air-guitaring, I admit, is always a good experience.
Well, that's all I got for today. I leave you with some lyrics to sum up what you've just read.
We're living in repetition
Content in the same old shtick again
Here are we, the new blog system, pretty neat isn't it?
So many things have happened recently - Green Day's new album was announced, Frank Turner released extra tickets for Wembley, the UnNamed Festival was birthed. All exciting times.
Guess I should write a bit about myself?
I'm off to 5 different countries this year - starting in MARCH! Ireland, Dublin, to be precise. See you all there
Today, my friends decided to nick my car keys and go move my car - I currently have no idea where it is and trying to get answer from them is proving to be futile.. might be sleeping on the streets tonight. At least I have my iPod to keep me company.
Chris Jericho once said "Art is when you make something out of nothing." Physics tells us this is impossible, but physics is boring and mundane and I don't want to talk about it here. Jericho is referring to the wonderful act of creation that is the driving force for nearly everything we do. The lick of paint on canvas that turns into a masterpiece. Words placed after certain words that become anything from a rolling piece of poetry to a speech that moves millions. Art is everywhere, and it makes sense from the catastrophic confusion that life can be.
I recently had the privilege of speaking with Jim Demonakos, co-creator of 'The Silence Of Our Friends', a graphic novel about civil rights movements in the 1960s. In this conversation he talked about the medium of comic books not being taken seriously as an art form. As a wrestling fan I knew all about that, but I found it a shame. I'm not massively into comic books, at least not yet, but even I could see the idea of this movie/novel hybrid as something that can be enjoyable and fun, but also something that deserves recognition and legitimacy. From speaking with him I got the sense that his profession was often dismissed as something 'for kids'.
I think the people that think like this are only depriving themselves. Art makes this listless loveless world into something special and worth living. It's what we enjoy ourselves with, it's what we bond with. So instead of sticking with what's safe, try something new today! And yes, I did just shamelessly steal a supermarket slogan. Every little helps.
Welcome to Day 1 of my whimsical blog!
I'll pretty much write about anything and everything... and anywhere!
Hope you like it, gimme gimme gimme your feedback!
Apart from that, i had a great last night with the 2nd show from The UnNamed Festival. My plan is to spend more time preparing properly for each future event, to make them better organised and more accessible for everyone!
And along that theme, my new blogs' resolution is to better prepare in everything i do, so that i can keep my word and reach my goals more effectively and efficiently.
Big LOVE... and PEACE!
"You Fuckin' Hippy" - Woodstock '94
So I woke up this morning and opened the door to let my cat out. When I looked out across my yard I SAW SNOW!! It hasn't snowed here since before Thanksgiving! And this is Idaho I'm talking about. Usually there is deep snow all the way through December and into January. But now there is random snow on February 15th. I've been going to school without a jacket because it's been so warm lately. Stupid mother nature.
What an imfapctful first blog post
I guess I'll start one of these things. I'll probably use this to write about any opinions I have on life, society, you guys, etc.
Probably just going to complain about how sexist and homophobic people are without even realizing it.
To make this first post less boring I'll include a joke:
I can’t think of anything worse after a night of drinking than waking up next to someone and not being able to remember their name, or how you met, or why they’re dead.
Thanks, I'll be here all night.
This is a concept that just popped into my head yesterday while I was at work. How could a 'romantically inept' kid, who is known for his inventions, find a way to do the most romantic thing he could...? Yeah. I think this concept is adorable, one of my recent favorites. I'm the kind of girl who would LOVE someone to do something like this for me on Valentine's.
I love how the robot turned out. I think he looks pretty fantastic. As for the kids, well, I think you can tell that I finished this piece very quickly. They look a little off, in my opinion. The rest of it is thrown together. The candy box was thrown in last minute to balance that corner. It doesn't really have any other purpose.
This was sketched at work yesterday and finished in photoshop last night.
YAAAY. Happy Valentine's Day. Marilyn Manson also announced US tour dates. Today was awesome as fuck (yeah I said it).
It's like 10:30 at night, my meds have worn off, and yeah. I don't even know if I'm going to use this...I'll probably only use it if I need to rant or if I'm hyper as fuck and have some crazy shit to say. Like right now.
Whatever. I'll shut up now.
Hi everyone! I recently noticed that our amazing leader, Andres, has set up this lovely blogging system for our community. It's lovely of course and I haven't noticed any glitches yet. Although it seems Andres is trying to dominate the world now by getting us all of our dearly beloved blogging site, Tumblr. Nice try Andres, you can never beat Tumblr no matter how hard you try.
So guess what today is! Yes you guessed it, Forever Alone day! Or Valantine's Day as some of us prefer to call it. Anyways yay Valentine's Day. I, personally, do not care for this holiday. It could be because I have spent the last 14 happily single but that does not make me biased at all of course. Since it is the holiday of love, blegh, I'd like to give a Valentine's shout-out to some of my special friends here on GDC because I love this damn website. First of all by buddies Jinx, Zippy, Dennis, and Scat. You guys are just the best. A couple people I havn't known as long but are just as great; Bammy,Josie, and Florence, and Leo. And I'd like to mention Lindsay, Ben, Andrew, Leah, Jos, Bumeater, and Loner. I may not talk to you guys as much but I still feel the need to mention you. And finally the rest of GDC! because I seriously love you guys and this site so fucking much.
Now on to more pressing matters. A certain Armstrong tweeted today that Green Day has officially started recording a new album. And that Valentine's day is actually spelled Valantine's day, but that's not as important. This is kind of exciting news ya know, if we happened to be a Green Day forum. This, along with Green Day playing Summer Sonic 2012, is sure to kick off an amazing year for Green Day. So now we have the questions rattling around our tiny little brains. When does it come out? What will it be called? When the next god-damned tour? I wish I knew the answer, as we all do, But I don't. So we all just got to kick back and scream at our computer screens until we get some more news.
So I've dragged on testing out this fancy new gadget. Although with the amount of rambling I tend to do this is kind of short o.O okay then I'm no pro writer nor do I expect anyone to read this.
On an unrelated note I will never get tired of this gif.
Rage & Love
Hey what's up it's SgtRevDrFunk and we're back with more Let's Play Blogger 2!
Hey, that's how I introduce my Youtube Videos so I figured it would work here too. Some of you may know that I already have a blog called Either Way. So why do I need one here on GDC? Because I can, and because I have a lot of ideas, and a blog on something like GDC suits those ideas pretty well. I'm pretty stoked about this new feature myself, and when I read Andres' initial post about it, I immediately started thinking about what I could use it for...other than plugging my...for lack of a better word "real blog."
I came to a surprising number of satsifying conclusion. Yes, I'll post excerpts and links to my other projects here, since I will most definitely still want hits on them, but there will also be a lot of original stuff. For one, "lifestyle" entries, which are basically me writing down my thoughts on where I currently am in life, are much better suited for a social setting like this, so they're going here. Shorter, quicker, spur of the moment entries based on songs or Youtube videos I happen to like or be addicted to are also going to pop up, and honestly, those are what I'm most excited about, since I'll often come across something I really like and have nowhere to share it with just the right amount of thought added to it. Other little bits of writing that I do might be something I put here too...yknow, since my Writing Thread is a little...RevDrFunk'd...which is a pun that sounded waaaay better in my head. And finally, I'm definitely going to come up with some sort of collab projects, since I think the "allowing other users to update your blog" is a super interesting feature...I just haven't figured out quite how.
So basically this is going to be a less formal version of Either Way, which will remain my main blog and have the longer, overthought posts on it. This GDC Blog thing is a pretty nifty idea, and it'll be my challenge to find some ways to use it beyond plugging my other blog.
Speaking of which...check out my latest blog post on Either Way, about the Foo Fighters' presence at the Grammys: The Last Name in Rock. (I was planning to post one on Pokemon today but...yeah, hasn't quite happened.)
And ah hell, check out the latest episode of my Lets Play of Fire Emblem, wherein I scream like a little girl:
wow! blogs on GDC!
hooray for new inventions!
i'll just be putting things up like rants, and when i post a new chapter of something in my threads, or just my basic outlook on life when i feel like it.
i'll try not to be too annoying.
Alright, so we've decided to add in the blog system into GDC. This will allow you guys a place to post your writing. It can be whatever you want. I'd love to see people using it in different ways. If you have something you feel like writing, wehther it be Green Day related or not, I look forward to seeing how you guys use this.
Maybe you have some short stories or poetry you'd like to share, this would be a pretty good place to do it. Maybe you want to write your own thoughts about something Green Day related but can't quite figure out where to do it, you should try it here.
You can also assign other members the ability to write on your blog - so you guys can group together and publish one thing.
I really don't know what this will be yet, but I'd love to see how people are using it and make sure we find a useful way to highlight stuff posted here.
Also, let me know if you guys have any problems questions or anything else. I'm brand new to this as well, so who knows how it works. Hah.
To start your own blog (you're only allowed 1 blog) go to the Blog Homepage and click "Create Blog" on the top right.
