#5 - 2012

Posted by drumdreez , 03 January 2013 · 67 views

I want to start this off by saying that I'm not usually a very reflective person. I prefer to live in the present as much as I can and not dwell on past events or future possibilities. However, considering that my New Year's resolution is "Keep on not smoking crack," I thought maybe I should at least write my thoughts about 2012 so that I don't completely disappoint society's standards.

Compared to 2011, this past year hasn't been eventful at all.

I started off 2012 coasting along through the last half of my 8th grade year. 8th grade, actually, was a lot of fun for me. Going to a small school, I had a nice friendly relationship with everyone (minus one really snotty girl in 7th grade) and got along very well with all of my teachers. The most important event in the last half of my 8th grade last year had to be leaving my school.

I had attended the same small, private school for ten years. The classes were extremely small; my graduating 8th grade class had a total of 13 people. Because of this, I was extremely close with everyone in my grade. We had a nice little "graduation" the day before school ended. I, of course, smoothly fell into my role as the class clown by creating a graduation cap out of decorations, stealing and hiding one of the pizzas, and mentioning RENT and Green Day way too many times in my graduating speech.

The graduation ceremony might be one of my favorite memories from that school, in all actuality. Being the small nature-loving freaks that my teachers are (My school's name was Nature's Way. How more hippie can we get?), after the main ceremony we were taken into a small room and given little hand-painted rocks with a spirit animal that all the teachers had banded together to pick. The animal that the teachers had picked out for me was the bear. While the whole thing was extremely cheesy, I loved it and it was an amazing way to close out the year. Along with my time left at that school.

Another event that is less significant would be my mother's divorce from my step-dad being finalized sometime during the summer. I'm not going to go into details for that one because to fully understand the relief that came along with that, I would have to explain my entire childhood to you and I don't have time for that.

During the summer I also started attending the high school youth group at the Unitarian Universalist Church. At first, I was a little apprehensive because I didn't go to the church on Sundays with my mom. But the UU church has actually been an amazing experience and most of my closest friends that live in Tennessee are kids that go to that youth group. It's given me a place that I can completely be myself. It's given me amazing friends and incredible experiences that I can't imagine finding anywhere else in this town.

Another major event would be starting high school, of course, but I don't really want to talk about high school. It's been alright and not at all as horrible as I thought it would be. It's not the best but it could be worse. I'm just trying to survive it and see what happens next.

Overall, I'd say 2012 was a pretty great year. Unlike 2011, where the bad seemed to outnumber the good, 2012 has been almost exclusively full of good things, great experiences, and outstanding people. It's been great getting to know some people on GDC as well and I'm going to hate it when I go back to school and won't be able to lurk on here 24/7 :P

I don't know how to end this entry, so I'll just say happy New Year! May the odds ever be in your favor ;) Catch ya on the flip side, fuckers.
