Yeah, i searched.
I've met people that ask your age first and then name etc.
I ask:
1)name
2)music taste
3)where they are from
oh and do you ask like..casually or try to find a different way: funny, weird etc...
I've met a lot o people that have lots of different ways...i think it depends on the personality.
What about you?

I try to shove my personality onto people when I first meet them.
I just try to be more creative than "what's up" or something.

There isn't much more creative than "what's up".It would sound pretty pathetic if someone met someone and the first thing they said was"What music do you listen to?" It doesn't sound right. What's up is good greeting I think.

usually "is that your drink? 'cos if not, I'm shifting it."
or usually about something that is going on at the time, if they've seen someone I'm looking for, etc...depends entirely on where I am.

Aug 26 2008, 07:43 AM
It depends on the situation... could be name, could be "what's up?" "how are you?" "what time is it?" "do you know how much this costs?" etc. I do not generally just start asking people small talk-ish questions if I see them.
Jake
Aug 26 2008, 09:07 AM
After salutations, usually "what sort of music do you like?" A little music chatter and then "I'm Jake" or something.

Aug 26 2008, 09:15 AM
This topic is a little pointless, what you ask someone when you first meet 'em depends on the situation. You don't just dive in there with "Hi, what kinda of music do you like?" XD

pretty much in college one of the first questions you give/ask is "whats your major?"
annie
Aug 26 2008, 09:28 AM
I don't ask specific questions, just get on a topic, chat a bit, and see what comes of it. I wouldn't just be like "Hey what kind of music do you like?" I'll say "Oh this weekend I'm going to see [band].." and then the conversation goes to music tastes.

First I ask for:
1. Name
2. Age
3. If they are from somewhere I'm not familiar with, I'll ask where they are from.
4. Grade level
5. If we're at a party, I'll ask if he/she is enjoying it.
6. Music taste, if we run out of things to talk about. But the person always ends up talking about his/her favorite band, and I don't get a chance to talk about mine.
7. If it's summer, I will ask how's his/her summer vacation.
Damn, compared to everyone else, I ask a lot of questions

Well, I try to be less cliche. I mean, "what's up" is such a tired goddamn phrase that if that's the first thing you say when you meet somebody, the conversation could get boring so quickly.

It really depends. Like just a while ago I bumped into a floormate from last year so I of course asked her how she was and where she was dorming this year. Usually I ask what they've been up to or how they are in general.
*My bad, just noticed it said 'first time'. I guess their name then.
