When I was younger I used to run a few little personal websites...most of them had no point, I was just interested in graphic and web design at the time.
HOWEVER I now thought of a pretty sweet idea for a website so I'm gonna start doing it again. Simple coding, simple graphics, and hopefully a shit ton of awesome content mostly contributed by visitors.
Since it's been so long for me, I just need suggestions for a good and cheap place to buy a domain name. And any other tips you'd like to give as far as FTP programs and whatnot go (I used to use CuteFTP and Paint Shop Pro 7 back in the day). Sooooo anyone who knows about this shit...shoot! And post links to your website because I think that's fun. Thanks ahead of time.

As for domain name I think the prices are more or less the same everywhere..
The hosting prices and offers are where you can save (or spend) the most I think. (depending what you need)
As for the FTP client, I think it really depends on what interface suits your needs, but I've been using the FTP that is included in Total Commander and WinSCP and can say only positive things about them...

I'd say register.com (why not?) for the domain name, and A Small Orange for hosting. I don't use a certain client for FTP, just open up a Windows folder, and type ftp:// and then website name and whatnot. Right click, Log in as..., etc.

If you use Firefox, download the FireFTP add on.

I personally like Smart FTP. It's more straight forward in my opinion.
As for the domain, you might want to go underground.
Like here; Pricey at $40 a year.
or here.I like private hosting better. =]
But if you must get a domain from a big shot company....
StartLogic and Host Monster. I trust those website hosts and both have a good reputation. Not much of a fan for GoDaddy though.=/
I use to web design. T.T I quit though~
I use to be privately hosted...then....I quit. Tried again with a free web host. XP and quit again.

GoDaddy has the best prices on the web, just go to GoDaddy.com for all the best domains; .me, .ca, .com, etc. And they're cheap too.
Anyways,
I used to always write in HTML, CSS, XML, etc. I was always into writing code, I don't know why. But then I stopped for a while and I'm not as good anymore. But, I started on just writing MySpace layouts. I took the simple HTML of the default layout and just pimped around with it. Then I wrote some sheets for a blog I was doing and yatta yatta yatta. But yeah, I'm working on a project so I pretty much HAVE to get back in the game to do it. So, yeah.

yeah i think it's probably better if you write your own code - you can make it exactly how you need it, and you know what where and how works
at least if you have the knowledge or patience
