firstly, I wanted to say that on one of the Top 10 of everything books, green day is at #2 for most profitable tours of 2005 - (#1 being U2) - it said that GD raked in $140 million in 2005 alone, but U2 got $150 million.
also, green day's massive mudfight at woodstock 94 appeared in a book displaying greatest moments of 1990s.

Awesome.

I have a big book, I think it's called the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles and Albums 2006, where it gives you an alphabetical list of all the artists to ever make it into the charts since the 1950's and their single and album discography. Anyway, they have a top 500 list of artists based on weeks they've been in the charts. Green Day is at number 196, or something like that. I thought that was pretty good, considering in 2005 they were number 400-and-something.
Wonder what number they're at this year.

Interesting! And considering U2 charged an arm and a leg for tix. Cheapest one here was $90 and Green Day was $33. What a bargain.

my dad's a big U2 fan and he was quite disappointed for the tickets being well over $100 dollars.
that explains why they made so much money.

Hey that's awesome.
I'm glad that good bands topped the list. If Mariah Carey or some rap artists did instead, I would be pissed.
And as for the GD ticket prices, someone on this forum once said that it cost 45 dollars. I haven't seen the prices when they were touring, so I'm not sure.

It depends on which tour. The stadium leg of the AI tour cost more than the arena leg, but they still weren't too bad. I paid $40 (And that's including the tax and shipping and stuff from Ticketmaster) for the arena leg, and $55 (Also including tax and shipping from Ticketmaster) for the stadium leg of the tour.
Their tickets were really reasonable. Hell, they're fucking cheap compared to alot of artists. Especially for a band as big as they were during that tour. They could have charged an arm and a leg, and they'd still sell. They didn't, though.
They once said that they'd never let their ticket prices get ridiculous, and that they'd always be affordable, and they've stuck by that.

Yeah, Green Day's prices are very low for a band of their calibre, you won't find another band of their size playing big venues that charges less. They're one of the biggest bands in the world, they could get away with charging extortionate prices, but that's not how they roll
The only reason the amount is so high is they played SO many shows to huge audiences. I'm betting U2 played way less shows than that, but just ripped their fans off instead to make up for it.

You heard what Billie said; they did so much touring that year. Even at the time, whenever new tour dates were announced I was thinking, "Don't they need to rest?!"
I remember with Dookie they lost a lot of money and they probably had to foot most of the bill when it came to the FHT tour as well. There aren't that many bands who will pay to tour like that, take a smaller cut and all. Plus with the theatrics and the whole entourage surrounding the AI tour, most of what they got would have gone toward expenses like that; the band themselves didn't end up with the entire $140 million.
That said, they're still definitely rolling in it! XD

120 bucks for Green Day in 2005 in Aus cheap? dude Motley were charging 70-100 for all seats in 2005 in Aus which included Motorhead already a better a deal.
Also you all might like to look at 2006's list U2 got slaughtered, not just by the stones but Madonna doubled what they made and Bon Jovi kicked their asses aswell...

The fact is that U2, Rolling Stones and so on have older fans who have a greater disposable income than fans of bands like MCR and Green Day.
Green Day wouldn't have sold the tickets if they'd have matched the price of U2 and co.
