Hey everybody, I'm really tied between the two MacBook Pros; the 15" and the 17" display ones. I could really use some help, the 17" one is a lot more money than the 15" but then again, it has a bigger res. Please help me decide!
Thanks,
-Joe

I have a 17'' - it's amazing.

It's definitely worth it for programing and design programs.

Mechanical Man
I'm more in it for using the internet, having maybe one game on it, etc. And I want it to run OS X Leopard, I didn't mention that. Anyone else? Please!

Okay, I'm watching a this video and he really shows some down sides of the 15". Also, I don't really get the difference between the glossy and the regular screen, please explain. I may want to get the glossy one.
Laura33
I think I am gonna move this.

But I have the new 2.4GHz macbook and that awesome, there is no need to get a pro if you arn't really using it for video editing and stuff.

I forgot to mention I am hoping to get CS3 and FinalCut Pro on it.
Laura33
Well I have CS3 on mine, I have not all that familiar with FinalCut though
Mechanical Man
I'm getting the 17" most likely. Anyone want to put some input?
BabsBurnoutGirl
I was required to get the 17 for school - I have final cut pro on it as well - works very well

I don't know why you'd consider getting the 15. In the long run, the 17 will last you longer. And what if you want to get into other editing programs? At least you'd have more space with the 17 - not to mention options.

It's an investment.
CarnageXB
Bigger is better. How much money is the 15" and 17"?

Exactly, that's why in my last post I said I was most likely getting the 17". And what school requires you to get a sweet MacBook? I wanna go to that school.

I know. It is official; 17" it is! A mod can close this now.

Most private art schools do

Dude, the battery life in the Pro's are really limited due to it's Nvidia GPU, your best bang for your buck is either the

White MacBook 13.3 Inch for $1,299
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive

Or The
Black MacBook 13.3 Inch for $1,499
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
250GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive

Source

and they can get upto 6 hours battery life.

I have the 13.3 inch old model and it runs the final cut suite perfectly.
Also Final Cut Pro is a 3 grand app so I sugest try final cut express for like a tenth of the price.

My mate had to replace his MacBook pro's battery just recently cause it wasn't lasting more then 90 minutes.

But if you really want the MacBook Pro, I suggest the 15 inch because an extra 300 bucks american for 2 inches for a laptop that has exactly the same specs for the one for 2500.. it's rather a rip off.

15 Inch for $2,499
2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
250GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB

17 Inch for $2,799
2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
250GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB

Source

Also I advise to check out the Student discount if they have it over there the students in Aus get 10% off all apple products and software minus iPods.

Eh, I can handle the money. And plus, if five hour battery life runs out I can always switch to outlet power.
laurarols

A 17 inch pro won't have amazing battery life, 3 hours max my mate says.

If you know how to use Final Cut Pro, if you don't know how to use it go for Final Cut Express... cause half the programs with Final Cut Pro are used at industry level.

I learn extremely fast. i taught myself ps (Well who didn't), vegas, etc. i'm good with shit.

Trust me Final Cut takes along time to learn everything. And the tutorial videos are just annoying.
