I figured this would belong in here rather then movies
didnt see it anywhere else, sooo yeah....
Definition of Machinima:
Machinima (pronounced /məˈʃiːnəmə/ or /məˈʃɪnəmə/), a Portmanteau of machine cinema,[1] is a collection of associated production techniques whereby computer-generated imagery (CGI) is rendered using real-time, interactive 3-D engines instead of professional 3D animation software. Engines from first-person shooter and role-playing simulation video games are typically used. Consequently, the rendering can be done in real-time using PCs (either using the computer of the creator or the viewer), rather than with complex 3D engines using huge render farms. Usually, machinima productions are produced using the tools (demo recording, camera angle, level editor, script editor, etc.) and resources (backgrounds, levels, characters, skins, etc.) available in a game.
Machinima is an example of emergent gameplay, a process of putting game tools to unexpected ends, and of artistic computer game modification. The real-time nature of machinima means that established techniques from traditional film-making can be reapplied in a virtual environment. As a result, production tends to be cheaper and more rapid than in keyframed CGI animation. It can also produce more professional appearing production than is possible with traditional at-home techniques of live video tape, or stop action using live actors, hand drawn animation or toy props.
I figured dedicating a spot for it would make others aware of this intriguing style of filming
Examples of popular Machinima:
Red Vs Blue
Master Chief Sucks At Halo
Arby 'n' The Chief
Deus Ex Machina
Halo 3 Tricks (Im in that FTW)
Although most current Machinima is shot in Halo 3, it can be in other games.
It can be a comedy, it can be a short, a parody, a music video, a montage of skill, a more serious approach.
Whatever
Here's my current work in Grand Theft Auto 4
If you have a machinima, list it here, or if you know of an underground series, post it!!!
Now ill explain how to make a machinima for all consoles made from the PS1 and N64 Era to the present.
You'll need a Capture Card sold at Circuit City, some best buys and Ebay. They run about $40-$90.
You'll also need a Double Ended RCA Composite Cable You can probably find a better deal then the one i listed, just wanted a pic. They run about $10-$30. You might even already have one! Make sure it can reach your computer
The last thing you'll need is a VCR
Im not linking you to that xD
Just make sure it has an Input and an Output
Take you consoles RCA Composites and plug them into the input of the VCR. Plug one end of the double ended composite into the VCR and the other end into the Capture Card. Then, plug the Capture card into the USB slot of your computer.
Then run the programs that came with the Dazzle Capture Card and your set =]
Dont forget to check out Machinima.com to post and view a vast amount of machinima. They also have a youtube too.
Go make some Machinima =]
Discuss and share here
Happy filming
