Minutes To Midnight is the third studio release from Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory; 2000, Meteora; 2003), and was released internationally on May 14th, 2007, with the North American release one day later on May 15th. The album, co-produced by the legendary Rick Rubin and Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda, took 14 months to write and record. This intensive process resulted in the recording of over one hundred rough ideas for songs. The band whittled down the number of songs to 17, then narrowed that number even further until they had 12 songs. The album's first single, "What I've Done" was released to radio on April 2nd, 2007, and became an instant hit on rock stations across the globe.

The album title is a reference to the Doomsday Clock, a clock created in 1947 by scientists from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. Its purpose is to portray how close (in imaginary "minutes") the world is to nuclear destruction ("midnight"). The clock's hand was originally set to seven minutes to midnight (11:53) at the start of the Cold War in 1947, and has been pushed forward or reversed several times since then. It currently stands at five minutes to midnight (11:55). History lessons aside, Mike Shinoda has commented about the title, saying "don't take that at face value. there are layers of meaning, most are metaphoric." and "It's definitely a reference to the doomsday clock 'the Apocalypse' metaphor for death and rebirth, but it could also be applied to the music industry, sort of tongue-in-cheek."

a review is supposed to be something you've written yourself, and i don't think you've written that yourself somehow. if you have, it wasn't very good anyway.

I didn't like the album.
I started to listen to it,and in the forth song I just stopped.
It was...not good.

i dunno....i have the feeling that i already read that review somewhere
i might be wrong too

but minutes to midnight is an album you have to listen to it twice before you say anything
at the first time i thought...WTF is wrong here?
i expected typical linkin park songs....rap parts from mike and screaming parts from chester
but there wasnt
they wanted to do something different...no typical lp album and you notice that when you listen to it
even on a special track "No Roads Left" Mike is signing
i had to listen to it twice again and now i can say that i really love this song

i notice that the new album is splitting the linkin park community
i talked to fans who dont like the new album...they stick to Hybrid Theory and Meteora
and to other fans who started to like LP again
and even to brand new Fans who started to like LP after theMinutes To Midnight release

thats just my opinion

huh.gif agreed.
MTM just doesn't sound like....LP. It seemed to me it was like...another band or something. No, I'm not into it at all. Too many slow songs on 1 cd....
nice but boring to me. dry.gif

i did not like M2M that much.
i expected something better then that.
Hybrid Theory is the best LP's CD.
it's too.. slow for me, is not the linkin park i know and love.
but anyway, given up and no more sorrow are the best ones.

^same.
I think we've been waiting for too long to get a cd like that.

I'm fan since what i've done but i also think that meteora and hybrid theory are better than minutes to midnight. but i don't think that m2m is that bad. its different then the things before. and its of course better than that stuff with jay z.

It was to slow songs for me dry.gif ... But Bleed it out is very good! smile.gif

I didn't like it at first. Then a couple months after I bought the CD I started to listen to it a few times and I grew to love it. I think it just takes a few listens for you to get past the fact that it's different that Linkin Parks other stuff. Once you get past the whole "linkin park" part, it becomes an amazing CD.
Meganator
Minutes To Midnight was an okay album.
I think that the older Linkin Park CDs are the best, though.
Metora or Hybrid Theory.

It had a few good songs,
that are no overrated because of the radio.

.

My brother was once a really big linkin park fan, but then came M2M and it was crap, the worst linkin park cd by a long, long, long, long, long way. The only decent songs were "What I've Done" and "Bleed it Out"
Marc.
i much prefer Minutes to Midnight it's written really well... but thats my choice i prefer songs that tell a story linked with an album that also tells a story in it's own right and have been written from the heart of the musician.. i was never a big LP fan till i heard minutes to midnight great cd.

if anyone has noticed this album is way more deep and meaningful then the past two also... and imo thats a big step for LP.

It's a great album, but I prefer Meteora.

I loved the album as soon as i heard it. true its softer than the others, but i like the melodic sense and its nice to see the band branching out and trying new things - it sorta reminds of wat Green Day did with Warning
SilentlyRebellious
The only Linkin park album I've heard aside from this one is Meteora. I have to say I like Meteora more, but I love Minutes to Midnight. I didn't really like any of the songs except Given Up when I first heard it. However, I listened to it again last night and started to love it for some reason. And like Josh4309 said, they started branching out like Green Day.
TreChic
^Green Day started experimenting with their sound and their lyrics. They never lost the 'Green Day' factor. It seems like LP did.
Billy
i really liked this album although i have all three of theirs
st.jimmy521
i liked some songs of this album, like No More Sorrow and Bleed It Out. but i definitely hated songs like Leave Out All the Rest and In Pieces. they were so not Linkin Park and were sooo boring. I prefer their old stuff a lot more
Gibson970
I love this album and all the songs except fo a couple the last few were pretty poor. I vote 5* I think t was way better than Their last couple of albums

But

Shadow Of The Day
Bleed It Out
No More Sorrow
Wake/Given Up
Leave Out All The Rest
What Ive Done
Valentines Day

All rocked like a stone!!!!(The others were alright)
