Of course we do it with all safe stuff, but even with that....
I did boxing for two years, and it was just me of woman there

so the guys were really nice and carefull with me... I like fights, I did Kung Fu and Capoeira too. I was athlete for 15 years.
But I don't like to see fights on tv, those ones where people fight untill one is really hurted and bleeding.... I like it as sport, like in the olympic games.

Absolutely true. That's why I don't like boxing but still love japanese martial arts. There's some etiquette (sp?) there, some kind of philosophy coming with it, not only figting until your opponent looks like a piece of raw meat.

I think it'd be quite cool to play boxing.

Boxing is unfairly looked upon. It's no different to any other kind of combat sports.
Fair enough, you get the odd match where one of them is unrecognisable, but he's most probably been in the ring with a slugger, not a boxer.
True boxers use speed, skill and cunning to win their matches, they don't just use brute force and ignorance.
But hey, sometimes people get hurt, as with any contact sport.

I love to watch boxing, but I guess I wouldn't try it myself.. I don't think it's only about hurting your opponent as much you can, it's pretty mental too..

There is etiquette to boxing... A fight would be stopped if one of the boxers looked like raw meat...e.i: Jerry Quarry always got cuts and had to have fights stopped. If a boxer is looking really beat too, that'll stop the fight they don't want another Duk Koo Kim situation where the boxer actually died. And blah blah blah, it's been around for so long and I'm surprised by that because most things die off after awhile.
I just saw this thread so yeah...replied.

And that's
exactly what I hate about boxing! It should be stopped before something like that happens, in my opinion.
It remids me of gladiatorial fights in antient Rome. The more blood, the more fun. Sorry, I just don't like it.

Nowadays it is usually stopped before any real damage is done.
Not like back in the day, back then a boxer could have lost his sight and the ref would let it continue.

Short (incomplete) list of boxers who have died due to injuries sustained in the ring:
1906 Harry Tenny died from his bout with Frankie Neil. Struck in the jaw, skull fractured.
1910 Ginger Williams was knocked through the ropes during his fight with Kid Kennith.
1910 Tommy McCarthy died on an operating table due to a knockout blow from his bout with Owen Moran. McCarthy was struck on the jaw with full force, his skull was fractured at its base when his head struck the floor.
1962 a boxer (Emile Griffith) had a bout against Benny Paret...at the weigh in Paret called Griffith a maricón which means queer in Spanish...Griffith, being homosexual, was pissed off and almost threw punches there. Then at the end of the 11th round Paret blew a kiss at Griffith which set him off in the 12th round. Griffith backed Paret into a corner and unleashed hell on him, Paret went down but was still up because his arm was caught on the rope. The ref stopped the fight but by then Paret was unconscious. He died 10 days later.
1982 Another didn't die in the ring but died five days later due to injuries (slipped into a coma)...there was 15 rounds but now it's just 12 because of that particular fight. The boxer was Duk Koo Kim.
1994 Bradley Stone died of head injuries sustained in his fight against Richie Wenton. He apparently seemed fine when he walked out of the ring but collapsed hours later.
2005 Leavander Johnson died after his fight due to brain injuries...also slipped into a coma and died five days later.
-------
The fights on TV aren't about making your opponent bleed...
...Boxing involves pummeling your opponent...of course there's going to be consequences following it. As stated before, the refs nowadays usually stop the fight when it looks like a boxer is taking a vicious beating, there's too many cuts or if the fighter is unusually sluggish later on. They stop the fight before a fighter looks like hell. It's not about beating your opponent to a "bloody pulp", no one in their right mind would have intentions to kill their opponent as means to win the fight. It's an age old sport that (some) people find entertaining. I enjoy watching it because I like witness the different skills/techniques.
But yeah, you don't have to like boxing, but at least give a better reason other than "it's stupid" ...what makes it stupid?

I'm gonna seem incredibly moronic here, but I actually laughed at that.

Nah... it's kind of understandable, the whole situation was ridiculous. Paret was being immature but Griffiths should have been the better man and ignored it...
