So I was checking out Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time, and decided to make a list of who I've seen and who I'm going to see.

I know that most of the people on this forum mostly go to shows of more modern bands (nothing wrong with that), but what awesome guitarists have you seen? Here is the List from Rolling Stone.

Guitarists from Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists List:

10. Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones)
15. Carlos Santana (Santana)
28. Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young)
50. Pete Townshend (The Who)
83. Neil Young (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / solo)
87. Joan Jett (The Blackhearts)
94. Bert Jansch (Devendra Banhart & The Bridge)

Total: 7

Seeing soon:

4. Eric Clapton
18. John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
26. Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine / The Nightwatchman)
33. Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth)
34. Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth)
70. Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
81. Derek Trucks (Eric Clapton)
86. Tony Iommi (Heaven & Hell)
Total: 8

Guitarists I think are good enough to be on the list:

Herman Li (DragonForce)
Sam Totman (DragonForce)
Neal Schon (Journey)
Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society / Ozzy Osbourne)
Chris Cheney (The Living End)
Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)

Marc Orrell (and met him)
Dez Cadena!

I wanted to put Billie Joe on my list so bad. He's great, but he's not one of the best. Doesn't stop him from being my hero, though. happy.gif

I saw Joan Jett, shes on the list, I don't know why though.

I've seen Chris Cheney 4 times (TLE) he's a brilliant guitarist.
I wish I could say I've seen Tony Iommi

I guess they needed at least two female guitarists to put on the list so the feminists didn't rip their balls off. (The other being Joni Mitchell; incredible lyrics, but not one of the best guitar players).

I've seen 'em 4 times as well, and he is without a doubt the best guitar player of any modern band. No one even comes close.

Well, he's touring, along with all the original Black Sabbath members, minus Ozzy but including Dio, under the name Heaven & Hell. They haven't announced any US dates yet, but if they come to the Bay Area I'm totally seeing them.

Chris Cheney
Joan Jett(I saw her live, and she's on the list, so I'll put her on mine)
Jason White(he didn't write the awsome songs billie did, but he may have more talent)
Pete Townshend
Josh Cain(motion city soundtrack. he has progressed his guitar skills so much)

Yay Chris Cheney made the list!
It's so mesmerising watching him play.
Chris is the best guitarist to ever see live, hands down.

I've seen MCR three times now and I think Ray Toro is an awesome guitarist. The way he just gets into the feel of the music, it's so awesome.

EDIT: Aww I read it wrong, Chris Cheney didn't make the list. That's just not right! [well in my personal opinion]

I just added a bunch of guitarists that I thought were really good, but not one of the best.

Well, the list was made back in like 2003. Not to mention the fact that the people at Rolling Stone have probably never heard of The Living End. Has anyone ever seen any mention of them in the magazine?

That list was made back in 2003? Well I think it's time Rolling Stone made a recent list.
I know The Living End have been mentioned in Rolling Stone before, but I'm not sure if it was the Australian version of the magazine or not. confused.gif

They deserve an article of their own.

i'll write it and submit it. The odds of it getting published are slim but hey it's always been a dream of mine to see my name in Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone is no Courier Post but I'll give it a shot.
I'm gonna focus on how they haven't gotten the props they deserve in the US which is really suprising after two successful US tours and a bangin album.

I've seen Keith Richards, Joe Perry, Frusciante and The Edge...they are all great but they are nothing compared to Matthew Bellamy from Muse, he is like one with the guitar i swear it's impressive. Seeing him playing "plug in baby" live it's one of the most impressive things I've seen.

That list is mostly complete crap, and so very typical and generic! But anyway, the ones I've seen from that list are:

Keith Richards
Eric Clapton
Kirk Hammett

Seeing:
Tony Iommi
Joan Jett

Guitarists I've seen that totally pwn most of those on that list:
Joe Satriani
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Kerry King (Slayer)
Jeff Hanneman (Slayer)
Dave Murray (Iron Maiden)
Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden)
Janick Gers (Iron Maiden)

And more!
midlfecrysis
The greatest guitar player I have ever seen is Eric Clapton. Also Prince, he is amazing too.
Watoosh
That's a shit list, in my opinion. Johnny Ramone? Come on, now...

Billy Corgan is amazing. and Ian D'sa's pretty damn good, too. I've seen both of them multiple times.
