Amanda
This thread is to replace the best player of today and all time threads.

Which footballers are, in your opinion, the best players of the present and the past... and why ?
mechanicalman
What was wrong with two separate threads?

Past - Pele or Moore, because both had great technique and composure on the ball.

Present - Henry, for the same reason.

madie
What's with all these threads?

Past - Tony Adams and Ian Wright

Present - Thierry
Warning__
Future - Cesc Fabregas.

At the moment - Thierry Henry.

Past - Maradona.

I'm extremely biased. smile.gif
Amanda
It was suggested that the all time player thread wasn't sustaining itself as hoped, so I combined both ideas as it should create a better subject for conversation.
Warning__
OK, Amanda - do you have any opinions? smile.gif
Amanda
From the past I think Ossie Ardiles was sweet , and from now I have to say Cristiano Ronaldo .

That's put the cat amongst the pigeons, no doubt.
mechanicalman
Amanda, how could you pick an Argentinian and a Portuguese? ohmy.gif Two of our enemies.

ah, so it is.

I think song could be a really good player out of all the new boys. I wanted to put Mart Poom (for when Lehmann deserts us) but it wouldnt of fitted in with my 'theme; laugh.gif
presidentgasman
In my opinion...

Diaby>Song

maybe now, but give song a bit more experience. Hes but a baby, i think he could be much better that Diaby

Paul scholes is the king of getting away with shit. Thats a skill in itself.

But Schmeichel is a true legend. I love it when he commintates, hes so genuine. And he has this weird but cute manc/foreign accent. love it.

hahaha that may be true, but scholesy is an awesome all round player, his movement is top drawer. his passing is sublime, and dont get me started on his shooting.

his only weaknes is his tackling, pretty poor at that.

we missed him greatly last year.

Paul Scholes has red hair.

What the fuck has that got to do with anything?
The Underbelly
In the line of objectivity in this topic, I should probably say this:

Past: Zola
Present: Lampard
Smithy14
Past:King Catona or Zidane
Present:I think Ronaldinho
The_original_mrs_cool
Cantona was a bloody thug
Smithy14
QUOTE(The_original_mrs_cool @ Feb 12 2007, 12:03 AM)

Cantona was a bloody thug

Yep,but I like his character & style in match
The_original_mrs_cool
When he was good he was very good, but like Zidane he overshadowed that quality through violent play.
I mean, diving into an old man in the crowd, thats inexcusible.
chickin'pickin'
cantona was an awesome player...one of the best, but as katie said his game was marred by some awfully bad tackles, and of course that infamous attack on the palace fan.

and his response in the press conference? spout some philosiphycal (sp?) shit about seagulls, i mean what the fuck was he banging on about....fucking frog biggrin.gif

if it wasnt for those negatives he would be my fave past player fo sho.
The_original_mrs_cool
^
haha, seagulls?
have you heard his poems? bloody hell is mental.

But i totally agree, incredible skill but mared by a poor temprement. Unfortunatly i think thats how Rooney might go as well
chickin'pickin'
laugh.gif yeah seagulls, i cant remember exactly how it goes..but its rather random, he went into acting when he retired, think he was in elizabeth.

Then beach football.

and now is a pie enthusiast.

EDIT: this is the seagull crap. "When the seagulls... follow the trawler... it's because they think... sardines will be thrown into the sea"
The_original_mrs_cool
^
and thats why he kicked the bloke in the face?
i might try that sometime laugh.gif
chickin'pickin'
hmmm your not french, i dont think it will wash. laugh.gif

I have been trying to figure out what he could possibly mean, but i have given up, my conclusion is is that he is completely nutty.

Warning__
Ronaldo is the best right winger in the world.
The_original_mrs_cool
it takes more than goals to be the greatest.
unless he changes his attitude and temprement he will never be the best
