Eee, I go sailing with my dad when we go on holiday. It's wicked! Except once we were out on quite a big boat, bigger than a laser, and we went past the marker for where the holiday resort ended. So we were out sailing into the open sea, and we only realised like 10 minutes after we passed it. So he were like "shit, what about insurance!!" and me and my brother were like "shit, what about the SHARKS!". So dad tried to turn round but he capsized! And me and dad fell into the water and the boat turned over and then we were floating around and I was shitting myself about if there were sharks and my dad couldn't find Patrick and he was diving under the water and shouting his name and then we heard a faint "I'm up here!" and he was attatched onto the boat! He didn't want to go into the water because of the sharks! So dad forced him to come down and then we were stuck in the middle of the ocean with a huge upturned boat and no idea what to do next.
So dad tried to upturn the boat but the boat wasn't having any of it, and then we heard like this chainsaw noise and me and Patrick were still crapping ourselves about chainsaw wielding sharks, and then a rescue boat came!! It was a big orange speedboad and we were so thankful. But about 1 minute before it reached us, its power cut out. It had broken down! So they had to call for another rescue boat. And thankfully we were all safe from the evil sharks and we were back on dry land in no time.
I have more stories

including when I was hit by a speed boat! But those are for another day...

Swimming is the best sport. I love being in the water, it's like you're flying. Just gives you a sense of weightlessness =)

I think I've been there

I normally just bodyboard down at Sandbanks... it's a huge beach and the harbour's beautiful, but the surf ain't that good

Though when you get a really strong winds blowing onshore it's awesome!

I love boating. My family has a boat and we go tubing, waterskiing (I'm terrible at it though, I can't ever get up.) And love going boogie-boarding at the beach. I've always wanted to try surfing. And I go to Ocean City, New Jersey.

And also swimming in the sea is way more fun than in a pool - unless the pool has a wave machine

i love sailing... it's really fun, except for when i forget to wear gloves to run the spinnaker line.... it's only really fun in its really windy tho, and the boat heels over so it's almost vertical

swimming's pretty fun too... and diving.

So me and my mate are planning to go to Devon for a couple of weeks (at least) this summer on a surfing holiday. We figured we might as well buy some boards rather than hiring them for two weeks since even if we don't want to carry on surfing (which I'm hoping we will) after the holiday we can always sell them and it'll work out cheaper, so I'm planning on getting one instead of a bike.
Does anyone know of any good companies that make boards and what sort of board dimensions we'd need (I'm 5"8, about 11 and a half stone, he's 5"11, about 13 stone). All I know is we need longboards since we're both novices but more precisely I'm quite clueless on this stuff. We're hoping to buy some second hand so we don't have to shell out an absolute fortune for new ones but at the moment I have no idea what we're actually paying for, so any advice would be much appreciated!
