Here's a thread for all you cricket fans ( lets avoid the usual Aussie/Pom bashing if we can guys ).
Such a gentle, refined sport... till you see the fans ( The Barmy Army for example ).
Haha.

What a disaster the Ashes was. Strauss should have been captain, not Flintoff. And Monty should have been picked in the first two tests. But well done Australia. They completely outclassed us.

Yeah, we kind of got pwned by the Aussies. They played amazing though, they deserved it. But next time!!
Aah I love cricket. I like watching it, and also I like to play it. I generally slug the bat rather than tap it so I either score 4s or one or two by running. I like bowling too, but I'm better at underarm bowling. I can do proper overarm but it's usually extremely wide, hehe.

I like playing it. I'm not very good though. I got out first ball today.

And the whipping doesn't end with the Ashes...
We should just claim their players back, pardoning them for the crimes that got them sent there.
We might have a chance against a bunch of alcoholic Aboriginals.

In a nutshell:
Two guys from one team bat while the other team fields. A bowler from the fielding team bowls the ball 6 times (those 6 times are called 1 over) and tries to get the batsmen out. The batsmen hit the ball and depending on how far it goes they run the distance of the pitch as many times as they can. If the ball gets to the boundary but bounces it's immediately 4 runs and if it goes over the boundary on the full its 6 runs. The batsmen can get out by being caught on the full, if the fielders hit the wickets (sticks sticking up from the ground at each end of the pitch) while the batsmen are running and don't get past a white line on the pitch, if the bowler bowls the ball and hits the wickets, or if it hits the batter's leg but would have hit the wicket if their leg wasn't there (called LBW - Leg Before Wicket). The scores look something like 3/198 - that's 3 batters out and 198 runs scored by the batting team.
Also there's a few different types of cricket: One day games go for one day obviously and each team gets one go at bowling and batting. Test matches go for up to 5 days and each team gets 2 goes at bowling and batting. Then theres the new Twenty20 games that only go for about 2 hours with 20 overs for each team.
I probably just confused you even more.

Jan 9 2007, 07:03 PM
haha how the fuck do you play cricket?
Joey
Jan 9 2007, 07:24 PM
It's a game that has 'lunch' and 'tea' and lasts for 5 days. Both teams wear the same colour kit and the Americans aren't good at it.
You don't play it, you watch it from the other side of a field.

Its not our fault that the England team are more focused on their tea than playing a match.

I went to the recent Twenty20 match between Australia and England. When Australia was batting it was quite exciting since there was at least 2 sixies every over. But when England went in to bat...it took until the last over for them to hit a six.

Yeah some Bollywood director wants to make a movie around the events of Bob Woolmer's death. He said that it'd be a love story between two individuals with a cricket backdrop. He also said that Bob Woolmer will not be directly mentioned but the links with the death will be obvious. It sounds lame to me.
