One of the suggestions I got recently was to split up General and Green Day chat, then put all Green Day subforums under one main GD forum. For example it'd be

Anyways, thats just an idea, one that I think might help out this place a bit. What do you guys think?

I think it would be great to split green day into its own area. Sometimes I just want to talk about GD, and sometimes I don't. But at least when I wanted to, people wouldn't start going off like they like to do around here!

I think Green Day should be seperate from General, but apart from that I like the forum how it is. Other bands is way to big to be lumped in with off-topic.

Plus, we wouldn't have to worry about Green Day stuff being lost in a pile of General chat stuff. Thats why i have a couple pinned threads of Green Day news every so often.

But if your splitting up Green Day & General, I think it's better if you combine all GD stuff, but just leave Audio and Video in one apart forum

Maybe that would be good when GD are a bit more active, but now..

The GD forum wont get any news, apart from like 1 thread a day. I don't like it when people stay mainly in one part of the forum because it kinda segregates. I think when GD are more active, releasing news on a regular basis then it would be good to merge GD and split off general. Until then, I think they sould stay together, cause it sucks when part of a forum "dies" for a while.

I agree - Other bands should stay as it is

I'm not saying how it's going to end up at final. That was just the first thought that came to my mind. We could create a whole new "Other Bands" main forum that could house the other stuff.

it would be good for the people who are tired of seeing green day all the time, they can just go in the non green day bit. but i think it would isolate members. you might get too many people hanging around in one bit and it could get very boring. I agree with Phoebe.

I like that idea.

But don't we have that now? Lots of people just stay in one place like Fan Art, Off Topic, or Other Bands. It's just that now it's all kind of tied in together, that doesn't mean people are interacting in other parts - but it seems kind of like people are just in eachothers way. This way the forum is just re-organized so things are lumped together by overall general topic, instead of by general content (i.e. "Main" "The Site", etc.) and easier to nagivate. Or so i would think.

I like the idea but i'm not too convinced by the sub-genres.

Alright, i've removed the poll for now since it was 50/50. Lets have some discussions about it first so we can make sure people have a better idea of what they're voting for.

I quite like the idea of splitting it like that. However I would suggest the following:

Green Day Community - all the GD stuff

then call the other community

General Community

and I would move Movies & TV from the Off Topic to the General Community - I just think it looks alittle strange under Off Topic

all threads related to green day, and we have a lot.

I have kind of mixed feelings about segregating things even further; I think that if people have a problem with Green Day coming up for discussion on a Green Day fan site, it's kind of a mystery to me why they're here in the first place.
I think the fact of moving Movies and TV to a separate forum took a lot of color out of General Chat; supposing a new movie comes out that people want to talk about, couldn't it stay in General till it gathers a certain number of pages, and then be moved? I feel like culture and news are of necessity a mixed bag, and that being too specific about niche interests has led to a lot of lack-lustre threads cropping up in General.
I find the other sub-forums to be kind of a dead zone that I only visit on occasion, but maybe that's just me; I love General, and I'd like it to be more open.
On the other hand, it would be good to have a forum where people could go to discuss like, serious fan shit, and I think that's lacking - I've always been going on about Green Day's history and the culture surrounding them, and I think it would be great to have a permanent place for that, it could generate all kinds of interesting stuff.

Some people (most oldies) are kind of sick of seing gd stupid threads all mixed with the other stuff, wether if they like the band or not. But some of them decide to stay anyway cause they like the place, or they've made good friends here.

Yeah, I think it'd be awesome like that. It'd make more sense, anyway.

I personally think when the album comes out, and the band are a little more active, then maybe Green Day chat and General chat should be split up, but not at the minute.

Yeah, I can certainly see your point about the 'stupid' threads, but sometimes people seem to object to any discussion of GD at all.
I also take your point about why people stay - there are plenty of times when I don't see anything I want to post on, and I just spend my time messaging friends. I suppose people have different needs and wants from a forum, I just think that a GD forum should always have a slight bias towards GD topics, provided they're not about Mike's toe-nails or somesuch.
A GD-only forum would also be a good place for innocent noobs to go and find out the basic stuff about the band without being flamed for it. I think that if it happens, there should be some provision made for the fact that kids come aboard full of the fucking joy of discovering the music, and they just want to say it - maybe a permanent 'Why I Love GD' thread of some kind; the feel-good of the New Orleans thread, where people seemed to be unleashing all their pent-up affection, made me feel this a lot .

I totally agree with you that Green Day has to be "topic" here, since I'm aware this is a Green Day Community. But I think it'd be good if we put all green day related threads together, and the other threads, such as political ones, on the general.
But that's just an opinion.

I think people go to their own areas as it is now. So it won't be too much different than it already is.

I think at least this way if people want to go talk about Billies hair or Mikes girlfriend or Tre's penis they can do so in good company!

hmm i think it's a good idea. at first i didn't because i thought there would be hardly any threads left to go in general chat afterwards, i do still think that a bit actually but i guess we'll have to see how it goes. it'll be very good for when the new album comes out as there will be plenty of Green Day discussion then, but there is hardly any now. so i don't know how much that forum will be used apart from the "whats your favourite album" threads. although i say just go for it, if it doesn't work out it can be changed back, right?

Well, i definitely want this place to remain a Green Day forum first and foremost, hence the reason I would like to place all the Green Day stuff at the top of the forum's list. I dont want the Green Day forum to become the place where stupid people can post stupid stuff about Green Day, we're still going to encforce the current rules we have. If something's stupid, regarldless if it's about Green Day - it'll be deleted. The Green Day forum might be a little slow for now, but I don't see the harm in having all that stuff gathered up in one place. It just kind of makes sense that we have a section dedicated to Green Day talk since this is a Green Day forum. Most topics about Green Day get buried in a ton of other crap right now, so maybe if they were all in one place it would help keep Green Day stuff somewhat relevant.
