Do any of you or your families donate to any charities? Or if you could donate to any, which would it be? What makes one more important than another?
It's kind of weird giving money to a charity just because you don't get anything in return. I know you're not supposed to, but it's just kinda weird. I remember being in church one time and the church was having a problem with people hardly donating and the priest said "Why is it that $20 is barely enough to go shopping with, yet giving $5 to the church seems like your giving your bank away".

and we give away all of our old clothes and toys away, too. i like doing that.

I don't do that, I barely can afford my stuff. But if I had the money, I probably would give it to poor people. I'd buy them some food, give them the clothes i don't wear anymore.

My dad just donated about 20€ to Unicef. Some people with broschures and everything came to talk to him telling what 20€ can do. I heard it all and i admit it, it can do a lot.. I think getting hospital supplies etc to Africa and all is pretty important because thats pretty much everything we as the "rich people" can do. So im glad dad did the whole donation thingy.
AND Unicef mailed my dad a thank you broschure. Its a shame it was in swedish..

Woohoo. Great work with that one..

i'm not sure if my family gives to charities, i know that we always donate money to the church though. and i give some money to those Santas holding buckets around Christmas time. we also give away our old clothes. but, i'd really like to give money to those little kids in Africa. those commercials make me feel horrible. but on the commercial's they're now asking for like, $27 a month? i wouldn't be willing to pay that much. but, i'd maybe give about $50 every year.

my parents anually donate to some environmental organization and the animal rescue league.
i hardly have enough money for myself, so i'm not a big donator. but if i'm out and see people collecting money for a good cause, i'll usually give a buck or so. i guess it's not a charity, but the last time i donated any money was to a small businesses against wal-mart organization.

I give away my old clothes, books, etc. to Deseret Industries.
Also when I'm purchasing something at the grocery store, they will have those little boxes where you can put money in for a certain charity. I'll usually put my leftover change from what I bought in them.

my family does'nt give away, cuz we don't have anything to give away. we are'nt poor, but our money does'nt come out of our asses. my parent's give a couple dollars to church and stuff like everytime we go, eventhough we go like once a month, but that;s it.
if i had some extra cash that i could give to a charity, i'd give it to those starving children in africa. cuz those children with cancer have they're family that could support them. but none of the kids in africa have family that could support them. they're all poor.

I don't give to any particular chairty in particular but if I ever see anyone collecting for a charity I always give money.

I like donating my time mostly, I feel it's more valuable than my money.
Like I'm going to run a PETA tent at our farmers market, and I think that's more valuable than just giving them twenty bucks.

No, my family doesn't donate money to charities. We donate clothes and toys to less fortunate kids sometimes, but not really that often. If we did donate money to charities, we would give it to St. Jude Children's Hospital, I don't know why, I just hear my mother repeatedly saying it.

In Religious Ed., during Lent we are given the "Rice Box" to take home with us. At the end of each day, you're supposed to toss your spare change in there, and after Lent you return it to your teacher. Usually, my family does that, and when we do go to church, we give a few bucks.
i havent even close to enough money. i would if i did, however. and i do give money to homless people who live nearby.

We don't donate money to charities and stuff because my family doesn't really have any to spare. My mom said that when we do, she'd love to donate to a shelter for abused women or an animal cruelty foundation or something like that. For now we donate old clothes and food.

near thanksgiving donate canned food to my school and they give it to charity. i also give away the clothes that i probally wear once or twice. i dont give money to the homeless though. there has to be a reason why they are homeless. i give them food though. most of them are homeless because of drinking and drugs. why give money to someone if they are going to use it to kill themselves? isnt it better not to give money to them? they dont need drugs and alchohal.

We don't give to charities regularly. Not because we don't want to, but because we're not exactly well off. Sometimes we give money or donate toys to the Salvation Army, or little things like that.

We always donate clothes and things when they're collecting. My mum has donated things to charity shops and bought from them for years and years. Sometimes i wonder exactly how much she's donated over the years. Can't always afford to just strait out give money though. It sounds mean but when you don't have it, you don't have it. That's why i always donate old clothes and things.

If I have money and there's doors to doors collectors or people in town that's represnting a charity I always do it, but I don't f. ex donate a certain amout to a special charity each month, even though there's some I'd really like to do that for, but one month I can have lots of money the next I can be totally broke, so it just doesn't work for me right now.

As a family I don't. But if school is doing something for a charity then I usually give something.
I always refuse to donate all my old clothes. My mom gave a way a bag of my stuff when I was about 8 and I gave her more than hell for it. Now all my old clothes are in garbage bags in the furnace room. A bit selfish, I know. I'll come around one day and part with them... maybe.

At my school we're always funraising for African countries. We decided to old an auction night earlier this year for an orphanage in Africa that takes care of children with AIDS or whose parents had died of AIDS. We were aiming for $5000 and ended up with $12 000.

i don't do that much, but when i see them people on the street shaking their little charity boxes i give some and when people come to my door i do, though no one else in my family does that

and we had a barnardos (childrens charity) bag come through the door today and i said to my mum earlier "have you still got them clothes i cleared out" and she was like yeh they're in the boot and i was like we can put them in there then. but she was all but they're too good for charity.wtf? i said to her they'd just be stuck in the car boot doing nothing and we might as well give them too a good cause. so i will tomorrow coz i doubt anyone else will bother

I donate all my used stuff to charities. Honestly because its easier than having a garage sale. I donate to a lot of charities thru work, if you make a donation off of your paycheck they give us dress down days. Whenever there is a disaster (like Hurricane Katrina, 9/11) I donate. I wish I could give a lot more.
I think its admirable that Angelina Jolie gives 1/3 of her income to charity. I know she could give a lot more than that and still be well off, but I doubt too many in Hollywood donate that much, much less the time and energy she gives.

Me and my friend ran this fair at school for Unicef.
Everyone had to pay £3.00 and we had a few mini rides there and one big one. We raised nearly two grand and I felt really good helping the kids.

We go through our old toys and clothes and stuff about every half a year, and most of it goes to charity. Some get passed down to my little cousins, or maybe my brother, but usually it all goes to Oxfam or Children in Need. Whenever there's a charity event at school, I always donate and buy stuff, and next year for Red Nose day me and my friend are shaving our heads. We're looking to raise about £200 each, if we're lucky.

We donate our clothes to poor people, I don't remember where exactly, and then sometimes when people come from door to door we donate. Mostly to the cancer foundation. We've known a lot of people who passed away from cancer so my mom always give them money. Also when the church and other foundations come around we give them some money.
