So I think I might be going there this summer, I'm really excited! But I've never been there before so I was wondering if there's anyplace special I should see. Ofcourse I'll go to the Empire State Building, but that's really all I can think of (pretty sad). Then I was wondering about CBGBs but I don't know if my family would take me. Anyone got any tips?
Or should this go in the advice thread...?

I went to NYC for the first time in November. It was absolutely amazing. You have to see Times Square but make sure you go at night. It is unbelievable. See a musical too. I would recomend The Producers. It is hilarious. Just see the typical tourist attractions like the Statue of Liberty and such. Go see Ground Zero too. I actually didn't get to see the Empire state Building when I went. I'll have to check that out next time.

I've been three times. I wanna move there when I get older. Most likely I'll go to college there.

I went there earlier this summer. You really have to go see Times Square at night its absoulutely beautiful! Also go to the Hard Rock Cafe there...its pretty cool! I suggest you don't go to Ellis Island it's really boring cause you'd think it would be like it was when the immigrants got there or like a museum or something but like all it is is a bunch of facts on how many people came there. But you definately have to go to Times Square.

I went there April last year for a Spanish Club trip
it was my first time going there. amazing city. so much to see and so little time.
I'd love to go back

The only way to have real fun in nyc is to not waste your time seeing the boring tourist crap. That's really all I can think of. All you have to do is walk around to find something fun because there's always a million different things going on here.

Oooo, you're lucky!
I've always wanted to go to New York City... I really hope I do get to go someday.
If I were you, I'd definitely check out CBGB's, and, if you're still just a little kid at heart, like me, I'd suggest going to FAO Schwarz, which I've heard is like the biggest toy store ever.

Make sure you go to the wax museum, the Hershey store, and places like China Town or little Italy. I live in New Jersey, just about 10 minutes away from the city. Oh god, it is so gorgeous at night time; I know you'll love it. Make sure you go to The ESPN Zone as well... fucking AWESOME.

I visited my aunt and uncle in New York last year. It was alright, it was just too similar to my hometown, Chicago. But if you're going, I definitely recommend you to pay a visit to Lady Liberty and the Empire State Building.
I'm leaving with my family for Miami in 6 hours -- it's gonna be an awesome vacation!

Ok so I guess I'll go to Central Park, the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Lady Liberty since everyone says those places are good. Man that sucks that you have to have a license to go in CBGBs!!! I wanted to go there!!! And haha I'll go to the Toy Store, always wanted to do that but I forgot about it. Thanks for the ideas guys!

oh anyone know street names of places GD was? I know I've seen a bunch of pics of them in NYC, it'd be awesome to stand right where tey were.

if you're into old school punk and stuff there's always the chelsea hotel. sid and nancy stayed there for a while, nancy was killed there, dee dee ramone stayed there for a while (and possibly died there? i dont know though...), and i think johnny thunders and lots of other people did too. and max's kansas city is right by there too, where sid played his solo gigs for some extra money and shit.
but, i'm a big sex pistols fan, and i like dee dee ramone a lot. so that might only seem exciting to me.

You should read "Killing yourself to live" by Chuck Klosterman. The Chelsea Hotel doesn't want anything to do with the death of Nancy and events surrounding Sid. That room is not something they have as a public viewing. Just thought I'd let you know

Do Tourist stuff! Tourists are funny! Go to times square definitely though. My friend has been and she manages to talk about it atleast twice everyday.

You gotta see something on Broadway if you can. Central Park is pretty cool in the summer. Statue of Liberty and Elis island are on the same boat ride so you can go see that. Although the last time i went they were doing something to the statue so you couldn't go up it. NYC is also just a great place to walk around. You're always bound to find something interesting. Just don't try and get a cab around 5pm-7pm.
