Metallica..
It's James Hetfield..
What's more?!
Tought me music?
Picked me up from pop music swamp?
Opened my mind?
Formed my band?
Tought me my insturments?
Prevented me from almost gettin into drugs?
My first tallica album was the black album in 95 -which means I am a newbie since their first album was released in 81 heh- and back then I was all MICHAEL JACKSON IS THE KING OF POP AND I WANNA DANCE!
heh
My first song was Sad But True, it ripped through my pop emo brain sells and awakened me hehe
Hetfield shapped me around a bit to appeciate good music, the riff.. the riff owns.
The magic of distorted guitars.. the headbanging.
Anyway I am a Metallica fan, hence the username heh, don't wanna bore you
Well that's just me, for others we'll just talk about Metallica's good shit and shitty shit.
anyway there is much to talk about but I wanna know what everyone favorite album yet and why.. fav live performance and members.
Myself James Hetfeild of course and Jason Newsted.. yeep I hate Rob Trujillo's guts.
Jason kicked major ass, shit there so much to talk about.. someone take it away.

Funny story about my experience with Master of Puppets - I loved that song so much and I could listen to it over and over and over again, went on like that for about a month. Then I got so sick of it , I could not listen to it anymore for a very long time.

Everything they did up until the black album was certainly influential, great music.
Everything after Fuel, however, is pathetic.
I watched Some Kind of Monster recently, and it just seemed like a group of men who completely lost the reason they began playing music in the first place, and looked at it as more of a neccesity. It's sad to think about what they've been and now what they've become.

Well, I'm all for people having different opinions than me, and right on if some of their later stuff had that kind of effect on you.
But to me, they all seemed like they completely lost their love for playing. I just can't listen to or have an appreciation for those later albums. It's my bias.

But they played a couple of shows a couple of month back, I got one video from one of those shows.. it's a video for For Whom The Bell Tolls and I felt the vibe was there.

The first Metallica album I got was Load (late bloomer), and then grabbed Master of Puppets and Black Album, followed by ReLoad and their subsequent albums through the late 90's, and then unfortunately St. Anger. I'm not a fan of St. Anger, and I hope their next album isn't as redundant. Watching Some Kinda Monster was depressing.

The relationship between Metallica & Megadeth and the whole dramatic history amazes me to write a movie about oneday.
How great is Metallica if they fire a member; he goes out to form my second most favourite Metal band of all time a.k.a Megadeth, just to express how much he hates Metallica.. the fuckin tension

James and Dave in Metallica 1981... best friends and room mates

James of Metallica and Dave in Megadeth; haven't spoken since 1982... worst celeb enemies.
"I really don't want to start anything with them, I don't think there's any way to win that one for me. If I say nice things about them, I'm Iying. If I say bad things, it looks like l'm trying to generate some sort of publicity. So what I've done is try to avoid the subject as much as possible - which isn't easy. When I'm asked about their album, I tell everyone that I really like it, that it's a great album. But if they ask me about them personally, that's another matter. They're dicks who really don't know as much as they think they do. You've got to remember, they gave it to me pretty bad when I left the group. It's one thing to part ways and just bury the hatchet, but they were trying to bury it in my head. I know how they felt about me and tell anyone who'll listen that I was a drunk who was holding the band back - that was a load of shit. Things weren't going fast enough for them, so they blamed me. The good part is that now I have the chance to make them eat their words. I feel sorry for them because of what they've had to go through recently, but that really doesn't change my feelings." (Mustaine, 1987)
"James and I have always been the main thing in this band, and we always looked at Dave and Ron and thought, 'This is fine for now, but... ' We had a vision and these guys weren't gonna last. We weren't gonna kick them out, but if we happened to find someone who could fit in, we get'em in the band." (Ulrich, 1986)
"To very very large degree, Megadeth and Metallica both are responsible for almost all of the great new metal bands out today." (Mustaine, 1998)
"I think that James and I are very much the same man. I think that we grabbed an angel, split him in half, and both of us are possessing that power." (Mustaine, 1983)Yeah, both Dave and James are two of the greatest frontmen of all time and you can't have two frontmen in one band.. like a ship with 2 captins.

Lars & Kirk being not so "metal" in 98, I'm guessing at some airport.

Hey so what do you guys think the new album will be like?
Well this is one of 2 videos posted from the couple of shows Metallica played earlier last month, the other one was For Whom The Bell Tolls and James sounded okay there.
I think the new album will have a Black Album sound to it for sure, they learned their lesson from St. Anger's horrible snare drum sound that being "row" does not mean low sound quality and random placements of doube bass drums heh
I wish they use the Pressideo tapes; the demos they recorded before James went to rehab in 2002 and never used later, I have only a couple of very small samples from those demos but they sound amazing, one of them was called Dead Kennedy Rolls.
A fact I don't like about the next album; Rob Trujillo will be writing music with them.. I don't like him, I don't like his style, his looks, his live performance and behaviour.. he doesn't fit with the guys at all yet I have to admitt that he is one hell of a bass player but I prefer Jason Newsted.. he's my bass idol.
They're now in the studio coming up with ideas for the new album very slowly and relaxed which sucks cause Metallica always performed better under tension.. this HQ studio they live and write music at now is just too "nice" to have any real work done in it.
And then there is the question of wether or not they're keeping Bob Rock as their producer; after St.Anger many fans demanded -even petitioned- that they dump Bob but I don't think St.Anger is Bob's fault if anyone's at all but the circumestances and the way the band felt at the time.
Also I miss Kirk's solos that wasn't on St.Anger..
So anyway; I think the new album is gonna kickass better than the last 3, I kinda sense it.

met-fan I'm also not a Trujillo fan. He's a one-trick pony and doesn't seem to work well with them. I loved Newsted, and it really pissed me off that he left the band for as stupid a reason as he did. Metallica's next album can't possibly be any worse than St. Anger, and I hope they revert back to Black Album/Master style, and they better have at least one FUCKING GUITAR SOLO on the whole thing, or I'm going to have to kill something.
I also don't like the fact they're sort of slowly day-to-day picking away on the album, but it's almost necesarry after the train wreck that led to all the therapy, and all the trauma that went into the St. Anger album process. I also think that Kirk and Lars need to check themselves. It pissed me off something terrible when they both bitched about not having enough expression in their songs, that James did all the work.
They need to know their roles. They're both key members, yeah, but Lars is a fucking drummer. While definitely important, dude - you're not THE drummer, you're A drummer. Kirk is a badass motherfucker, and I do appreciate his talent, his expression comes with the brilliant solos they used to do, and should bring back. James does a lot of the work because he's the musical and lyrical genius that he is, and the keystone of the band.
Let's hope their next output is badass, not St. Anger part 2, with guitar solos and badass riffs.
